SmartThings Hub V2 now available for pre-order

Ok so in my dreams, here is what is going on. There’s no formal hardware spec and feature set posted for v2 because the “one other nice feature” that Ben alluded to is, in fact, HomeKit support and SmartThings can’t tell anyone about it yet until Apple’s fall event is done. Alex Hawkinson is going to make an appearance at the event introducing the new SmartThings hub and giving HomeKit a much needed boost in usefullness. Yes, yes, Samsung I know. I did say it was a dream, right?

I’m pretty sure that this is / was the: Amazon Alexa / Echo integration! No!? It certainly fits the qualifications for being an “other nice feature” in the relevant timeframe.

Or something to do with the IFA, as was also hinted at in this thread, and so it’s a fair point you raise. However, it is extremely odd for a new product to emerge without any fanfare, so I see this as certainly being done on purpose. Nobody releases the next generation of their product without any marketing literature talking up what it does and why you need it. I can’t believe they’re that disorganized that the marketing deptarment hasn’t had time to update the website. The other possibility is that the product is just outright buggy and the feature set isn’t even confirmed. But now we’re straying out of Dream and in to Nightmare…

Or maybe it’s the fact that it’s not actually released yet…

When it’s officially available, I’m sure the website will be fully updated. As for IFA, we’ll find out in a couple of weeks, right around when the V2 hub might supposedly be available.

Sounds more like a nightmare to me.

Or maybe they believe that the product will sell itself. After all the “appreciation kit” was sold out in the matter of hours.

Is there any plans to make it available in Canada ? ie: amazon.ca or other retailers ? thanks.

The next generation Hub is available fro pre-order in Canada now.

Any more talk of opening up a preorder with the discount again? I tried to order it when I had a chance, and of course, it was sold out, because the discount was available to all, even those who didn’t have an existing device.

Slightly frustrating to your current members who didn’t get in on the deal, when tons of those on Slickdeals, who aren’t current customers, did get in on the discount.

Did you contact the SmartThings support team? If you have a V1 hub, reach out to them and they’ll put you on the list that I assume will receive more info about another offer that will actually be exclusive to you guys.

Just did!

Will wait and see if they get back to me. I ordered my original hub, barely three months ago, so I’m hoping they’ll be able to provide the discount again to existing customers. I don’t mind upgrading already, as it included the cost of some of the additional peripherals, making the upgrade price more reasonable. But without them, it’s effectively like just buying another hub, and completely wasting the previous hub purchase.

I’ll cross my fingers that they respond back positively…

Thanks!

My credit card just got charged for the V2 hub. Hopefully it is a sign that it is about to ship.

Hey! We’re putting holds on cards, but it shouldn’t have charged you yet. If your card IS already charged, shoot an email to support@ , and we’ll look into it.

That’s great, however, when ordering through a US store, we (canadians) need to pay custom, currency exchange and all that fun stuff. Lots of us prefer having it through a Canadian store which the customs/duties + currency exchange is already calculated in the price.

Amazon.ca had it up for $129 CAN + tax. but has since been removed. I had found an old link and when I clicked on it this same product page said “Unavailable at this time. Unknow when it will become available” or something of the sort. Buying it from the US with a $15 shipping cost is not practical. With exchange + shipping, this $99US hub ends up costing $150+ BEFORE taxes.

It sucks. But unfortunately not enough people will be upset by this to overthrow Canadian government.  :maple_leaf:

I’m also very keen to order from Amazon.ca (or a retailer within Canada, so as to avoid killer fees/conversion at the border)

I live right on the border and can easily get it shipped to the UPS store in NY. More often than not the border people just wave me through if I am under $200. Still, the cost without the taxes in total ($7 Bridge fees + $5 UPS fees + $99=$111 US or $146 CAN) would be identical as if I bought it at amazon.ca + taxes.

Of course I save a fortune filling up my gas tank in NY. I usually follow the tanker truck from Ontario hauling Canadian gas across the border to NY. Once he fills up the American tanks, I pump it back in my van and haul it back to Canada. I can save $12-$15 per tank  Canadian gas is really cheap… well… In the US that is :frowning:

Dear Canadians,

Ben pretty much said that it will probably be available in best buys. But I’m sure it won’t be for a little while after they start shipping.

Hope that helps answer your questions.

Thanks for the new pre-order offer. I wish I could have gotten in on the original deal, I liked it better. But something is better than nothing.

I cancelled my Amazon pre-order to pre-order from Smartthings

Well, come on! Spill the beans! What are you getting instead!
