Sell me on v2 Hub

Humm… Maybe store Local Video via the new local processing, Ohhhh wait… That will be a Premium service we’ll offer via the cloud storage… Isn’t that what we are basing our #1 HubV1 priorities on, LOCAL… Don’t matter much, we soon maybe the only system wit out a DeviceType for a live video camera…

Gents, let’s get serious, what is the price difference between 512 meg and a few Gig? I can’t believe how many things we are planning to plug into the two v2 Bluetooth slots…

Love you guys, but let’s really focus on what we want for the future… 3 months or 9, I’d wait a few more for a better piece of hardware. No quick fixes for hardware, so put all you can into it upfront, then it’simple firmware fixes…

As an outsider trying to figure out which platform to use… This thread is a bit disturbing. I was planning on waiting for version two and also thought about getting a version 1 but I’m definetly not going to get a version 1 now and now I’m thinking twice about version 2 :frowning:

Currently, there is a lot of speculation on v2. I think we need to wait till it is in the wild before we pass judgment

@Glenn : For a version1 product, I find SmartThings very impressive as a whole. When you look at the new power behind them (Samsung), and this version 2 which is an enhancement that allows more local level processing, I see it as a win-win. It will be faster, have more features, etc. So overall, I think you would find it a strong product, no matter what the final hub is/looks like.

Installation was tough, had to delete devices and start fresh, but overall experience has been very positive with new hub. Much stable, and faster Hub. Was able to purchase on discount from SmartThings and sold off the old one for $50+ on ebay. Has been a very good $40 upgrade to V2 Hub.

Here’s my review on Amazon.

Not really seeing any improvements with the so called local processing improvements.

Battery backup also sounded good, but if power is out, I can’t turn lights on anyway, also router and internet dead too, so the only use for it is maybe to help with a pairing issue to move the hub closer, but that probably work either cause I’m sure the hub needs to download the devicetype from the server, so being unplugged from power and ethernet probably no help.

The unautomated migration is a nightmare for anyone with 20+devices.

After all is said and done after v2 migration I have lost 2 days of my life setting eveything backup the way it was with no actual notable gains. Maybe only that my system will function locally if my internet goes out in the area, recall this only once in a few years. Only other drawback is my GE45601 remotes are worthless on v2, either blocked by ST or devicetype or Hub firmware not allowing, still works good on v1?

I would really think seriously before upgrading, what are you personally gaining? What might you possible loose? Unsupported devices that ST renders too much effort or competition, will eventually fade away and all we have is the community to keep them running with constant workarounds.

What about MyQ/Assurelink garage door opener integration, CES item promised last year, Chamberlain reports ST dragging feet or not wanting to be compliant and ST saying opposite, yet a cheap system like wink has had capibilty since day one.

Still not sure I’m on the right home automation system, only thing keeping me here is the hard work of the community…
