What are people using to monitor the temp, humidity etc in thier room? I know aeotec used to have something but i dont see it avialable anywhere & i thought that it was not compatible with smartthings. I was looking at something from eve that i think is thread but not sure if it even works with amartthings @JDRoberts
We need to ask the usual questions, just to help others who are reading along…
-
what country are you in? The device selection does vary.
-
do you have a SmartThings/Aeotec hub, and if so, what model?
-
how often do you need the readings to be taken? Many battery powered devices will only report once every 15 minutes, to save battery life. If you need near realtime readings, you probably have to go with Mains powered.
-
you mentioned temperature and humidity, which are the basics. But when people say “air quality“ they usually mean TVOC and PM 2.5 or some similar measure of what is essentially indoor pollution. And still other people also want carbon dioxide (CO2, not carbon monoxide) measurements included.
One of the newer categories for home monitors is HCHO, which is typically formaldehyde.
And a lot of the less expensive sensors group together several of these into one AQI (air quality indicator) aggregate.
- how the information is displayed varies a lot when you start getting into these pollution indicators. Some show you the actual numbers. Others try to make it simpler to understand by using a red/yellow/green color indicator.
If you are looking for the air pollution measurements, not just temperature and humidity, did you have a preference on this kind of display?
The following examples aren’t necessarily specific devices that would work with SmartThings, I’m just showing them as different ways of displaying the air quality information
This is what I use to monitor temperature and humidity.

The Ikea air monitor is cheap and functional. When matter is fully enabled by them it will be even better. But the development is very slow by Ikea
Sorry, im in ny state & im using a version 2 hub & a samsung tv for matter & im ok with battery powered.
And are you just looking for temperature and humidity? Or the pollution measurements?
I would like something that would include pollution details also.
The AirGradient One has sensors for CO2, PM, TVOCs, NOX, Temperature and Humidity. It uses ESPHome though but there’s also a HomeKit firmware image. The kit version is like $138. It’s more expensive than the IKEA sensor but also more sturdy
I’ve used one and it’s been really reliable. There was mention of a ESPHome Edge driver for SmartThings but gave up waiting and got a HA Yellow so that I can do some MQTT integrations with this (and other very useful ESPHome only devices)
