Improvement #1 today (you may think minor but it is very helpful)… More to come…
We did a complete review of the Kuna and really loved the features that it provides. However, we will be REALLY excited once its certified with SmartThings Any Update @Smart?
Kuna AND Ring please!
Have to read that for sure! This @smart is not be confused with SmartThings! @ben @tyler @slagle @april are ST guys…
BTW the new features worked wonderfully this morning.
Wish Kuna included a wireless doorbell.
Ring has a doorbell, but it doesn’t have a light…Kuna has a light but it doesn’t have a doorbell.
I want it all ! !
Wouldn’t be too practical fir somebody to reach high up to push a bell and of course you also don’t want false doorbells. It does notify on you phone. They are a small company and probably that’s why they don’t want to open their api’s for the time being and get into that much of a support mode. Once they open their api’s, probably it may be possible to trigger something.
I would guess the idea is a separate push button piece to go with the Kuna, like the one with the Aeotec doorbell. That would be cool.
What would be the advantage to having a doorbell connected to the Kuna? The Kuna should already be alerting you that someone is approaching the door before the doorbell is rung. You would also still need another device to sound the doorbell. I am sure I am missing something, but I don’t see what a doorbell adds to the Kuna.
It’s just another option. Choice is good.
Could be just for aesthetics, so the doorbell matches the lamp hardware.
But the main feature I’d personally like would be to combine the aeotech doorbell functionality and the Kuna functionality so that I could set the chime that the person coming to the door would hear when they push the button as opposed to the notification alert I get through the app. I don’t want the doorbell chime to ring before the person actually pushes the button, either.
Right now, the Kuna looks great at my house. The aeotech doorbell is a completely different kind of style and just isn’t something I really want to put up. The same is true for the other two button alternatives, the flic and the iris square button. Both are modern and plastic. Don’t get me wrong, they’re great buttons, but they don’t go with the Kuna. I’ve never been accused of having the best style sense but seriously,
does this doorbell
.
go with this porch light?
.
So the doorbell would change what the person standing at the door experiences.
Just a thought.
I knew I overlooked something. Style. Thank you JD.
Did you set your address now… The dawn/dusk is much better.
Sky bell 2.0 Review
Avoid this product unless you want an expensive $200 door chime
I bought this back in August of this year. At first it was working ok, then it went downhill after about 1.5 months. I didn’t change anything.
- The time it takes to answer the alert on the phone until I can actually see the video ranges from 5 sec to 15 seconds. Most of the time if I can even see the video, its of the people walking away (at lease 6 feet from the camera)
- If the video works (which is right now 20% of the time), the video is not constant and freezes. I can turn the video on from my phone and then walk outside and it doesn’t even update. I checked all the wireless settings. 2.4GHz, 20MHz, Ookla shows my speed at 50 Mbps constant connection. I can FaceTime with family just fine without interruptions. Even in the recorded video, it freezes and its streaky.
- I went through Skybell support and checked EVERYTHING wth them. I even showed them my speed test screen shots and shared all the router settings. They didn’t know what to do and blamed it on my spotty connection. It’s only spotty on the Skybell. For all my other devices it works fine. I asked to be able to return it for a refund and they said to take it back to the place where I bought it. Best Buy only has a 14 day return policy.
Conclusion: I’m left with a $200 door bell chime, not a video doorbell.
STAY AWAY FROM SKYBELL!!!
Give my 2 cents on Ring.
Love it so far - it’s been about 3 weeks now. I’ve had one small issue that just required an app reinstall. Battery life outside has been really impressive considering I didn’t do a full charge after receiving it and it’s already been exposed to 20 degree temps, as I live in Chicago. It shipped with 50% battery and I’ve seen it actually fluctuate up to 60% on warmer days.
SmartThings integration would be cool but the app in of itself is decent enough. I’m not sure what could be added to it but knowing this community, maybe something unique feature could be added.
The only gripe I have is you can’t view the camera whenever - it has to be initiated by motion or ring. But - I heard that this may be changing soon - hopefully the little birdy was right. Totally recommend it.

[/quote]Yeah I see this often too. Not great experience. I too have excellent coverage to the door. Just a pretty weak backend supporting Skybell
Ring is on IFTTT now, with if motion detected and if button pressed.
It would be nice if IFTTT had no delay…
I am on Ring and love it. Meets my needs perfect. The biggest issues is with people with wifi range, test out your wifi signal strength before installing. With some of the recent updates get notifications quicker, chat is not too bad, and video quality is fine.
I wanted to go with Kuna but there are a few negatives, You have to leave the power running to the light, then use the app to turn it on and off. To many scenarios I would just want to hit the switch (walking dog, someone knocking, pizza coming) If they tossed in a switch to allow power pass through and if you hit it to turn on the light that will be perfect.

SkyBell HD is now compatible on IFTTT, which allows you to cross over and connect with SmartThings.
Also, SkyBell HD is the only doorbell on IFTTT that can do BOTH Triggers AND Actions. You can get triggers from the button or motion sensor, AND, tell SkyBell to start recording video, change the LED light or turn Silent Mode on! We also have full color night vision and up to 1080p video!
The SkyBell HD is also back in stock at www.skybell.com.

This is very interesting. Anyone on here have experience with SkyBell HD and have use the IFTTT integration? Can you view skybell at any time? or does it need to be triggered to record before remotely viewing?
Maybe someone knows how close Kuna is to IFTTT integration? I love the look of these, but with no way to connect to other products it really gives skybell a leg up.
Jason, you can start, view and record live video from the SkyBell HD at any time. You can do it from the app or any of the IFTTT/SmartThings devices can trigger SkyBell HD to turn on and start recording.
SkyBell HD also records when the motion sensor is triggered, even if you don’t answer it.
The biggest difference with Luna is obviously the size. We’re about the size of a normal Campbell’s soup can.
Some other nice things about SkyBell:
–Full color night vision
–Up to 1080p camera without the fishbowl or periscope effect
–Made in the USA
–You can turn off your indoor chime from ringing (good for quiet time, sleeping babies and napping dogs!)
–On-demand video
This community is awesome! Thanks guys! I was wondering about which one was better as we are planning on getting my dad one of these for Christmas since he’s very interested in these devices and you basically made my decision…Ring it is!!!
You also introduced me to Kuna which looks freaking amazing and I personally might pick you of those up although I have 2 lights at my front door so it’s useless to buy 2 Kunas so has anyone went to Home Depot or similar and got a light fixture that looks incredibly similar to the one Kuna uses?
Any update also on the Kuna integration in SmartThings? Currently I use Arlo and again, I hate using all these apps but that’s a giant plus for Kuna if it can integrate into SmartThings and I can view everything from one app!
