Ring contact sensor with voice alerts?

I have seen some threads about people using contact sensors on doors paired with an amazon echo and an android app (Landroid, Big Talker, etc??) that would enable me to ask Alexa for the status of a specific door and have her voice if the door is open or closed. Secondly that when/if a door is opened it would trigger the amazon echo to verbilize “back door open” for example.

I am wondering if this is possible with a ring brand contact sensor and the above mentioned apps or if it has to be a specific brand contact sensor??

I am looking to start my home automation journey.

That functionality is natively available to Echos as of a couple of weeks ago - no need for even any smartapps to enable it. I can’t speak to the Ring contact sensor specifically but pretty much any “real” sensor should work. Some people were reporting difficulties with virtual contact sensors in the thread below but it doesn’t seem consistent.

This forum is for people who are using the Samsung smartthings home automation platform.

Those sensors are Z wave, but would probably need a custom DTH to work with SmartThings.

If you have the ring alarm system, you should get in touch with them and ask them if they are going to have their sensors work with echo or not.
