Hello all,
BACKGROUND
We have a SmartThings 2015 hub with about 30 Z-wave devices including switches, dimmers, outlets, motions, and thermostat. We recently installed a Ring Pro video doorbell paired to our hub. We also installed several ‘hidden’ Lorex IP cameras & NVR.
PROBLEMS
The LOREX IP cameras IR lighting is insufficient for color night vision (CNV) so we wanted to add more light. We initially tried IR illuminators but given the hidden location of the cameras, it became difficult trying to align these with the cameras. We now plan to add ambient light to those areas with the cameras.
OPPORTUNITIES
To provide more ambient light, we’re planning to install Ring’s new smart lighting (available March 2019). Our understanding is these new smart lights use WiFi protocol to communicate with each other which requires the Ring Bridge.
QUESTIONS
Since each smart light has a motion sensor, is it possible to pair these with the SmartThings hub? Since SmartThings doesn’t support WiFi other than as a router, I don’t believe it will. But how much is known about the new Ring Bridge? Since the smart lights communicate with the bridge, does the bridge support either Z-Wave or Zig-Bee protocol to communicate with various hubs on the market? Any insight is much appreciated.
Many thanks…
