A thief wont send you a notification when they steal your mail/package. I use this setup to notify when mail has been delivered and to take a picture out the front window when the box is opened. So far I have only caught solicitors putting flyers in my mailbox (which is illegal).
Thank you for your comment.
May I ask you please further questions:
- What camera have you been using along with the sensor?
- Do you find a merit for having such a sensor on the mailbox without using camera?
- Still I wonder whether you get a notification from the post company when they provide you a shipment?
Thank you!
Sorry to respond so late. I’m recovering from three back surgeries. I never came up with an effective solution for when only USPS mail is delivered. After our postal carrier began delivering our mail to other neighbors and their mail to us, I opted for the USPS Informed Delivery to verify that we receive our mail as scanned (assuming the USPS scans all mail). I also just installed a Ring Pro video doorbell so that any doorbell ring or motion within a specified zone will send me a text message. By pressing the app on my iPhone, I can see who is at the front door from any location. Video is also recorded and maintained for each doorbell ring and/or motion.
Unfortunately, we did not anticipate hungry deer eating plants by our front door between dusk and dawn. The first night was constant text messages and the associated ringtones. Fortunately, iPhone has a “do not disturb” feature, so I disabled any notifications during snoozing hours. We also have many more folks coming to our front door than just the postal carrier. And we continue to have a variety of different postal carriers delivering our mail each day.
Since I am interested who is on our property, including the postal carrier, I will use the video doorbell solution for now. Thanks to all who provided ideas.
