I just ordered one of these to try.
Looking forward to hearing your opinion. They have other versions (sizes) that supposedly mesh together.
Eric, I am going to try and test a little more tonight. One thing I thought and have to watch. It seems the audio is lagged just a tad. Is there a way to hold the flash for a second or two? Also possibly the option for more than 5 flash’s.
Can’t wait to get this installed! I’ve been missing notifications since my Ubi died and I stopped getting notifications from IFTTT.
Time for a goal light and to get my wifi speakers hooked up…
I just installed the SmartApp and can’t wait to give it a try during tonight’s Blackhawks game. I do have one concern, though. As an out-of-market fan, I watch most of their games through the NHL’s streaming service. This introduces an additional delay from live television. I saw someone post that the automations start a few seconds after a goal; with the streaming delay, I’d have my lights blinking before the goal is actually scored.
It would be awesome if there was a delay setting, so I could measure the approximate delay of the stream, punch that in to the settings, and have it wait before triggering.
I’m working on added a few features, delay is one of them. The other is support for color lights. Hoping to get the code done by tonight, but testing will be limited.
I love you in a totally platonic way.
Okay, I just committed changes to attempt to address the following…
- Attempted to fix no sound/speaker if temporary volume left blank.
- Attempted to add support for colored lights and light levels.
- Updates to the flash lights options
- Added option to delay goal notifications.
See the following link:
Please note that limited testing was done and I don’t have the ability to test speakers or colored lights at this point in time.
How do you update the smartapp with the new code?
Readers digest version:
Go into the IDE, open the app.
Delete the old code, paste in the new code.
Save and publish for me.
Yep, basically you just replace the code, save, and publish. Once you do that then go to the app, make any changes to the settings and select done - once you select done it will unschedule any existing routines and reinitialize the updated app.
I noticed during the Wild game, every time we scored, I got an alert for every goal that happened that game. So our 4th goal meant an alert for Goal 1, Goal 2, Goal 3, Goal 4 all at once.
So you have just one smart app running? I put in a few to test and got multiple notifications. I will test with just one instance running tonight. Just hope my team scores a lot!
Hmmm … trying to figure out would happen. Are these text (or push) notifications your were getting multiple ones of? Also, try to make sure your using the latest version of the code that I posted last night.
Unfortunately I was unable to do any testing last night. Tonight I have the latest code installed and all set up for my second favorite team, the Capitals. I have it set to blink a smart plug a few times, and have a dumb LED strip plugged in to it. I’m also going to try to calculate the delay needed for online streaming. Puck drops in about an hour; I’ll report back later with how it goes.
I don’t have a speaker yet.
But when it plays the goal horn. Is that a file or something coded in the app? Just wondering if it could play the goal horn then your teams theme they always play after a score?
I was just thinking about this myself. My current setup does that, but requires a computer and amplifier to be running during games, and I have to press a button on my remote to trigger the siren and music. If that functionality can’t be built in to the app, I figure there’s a way to use CoRE to do it. Like have this app trigger a virtual switch, and have CoRE use that as a trigger for more detailed or customizable actions.
I think he pulls the info from the NHL. The teams I have tested it plays the goal horn and the song thereafter.
This app is crazy good already. Some more beta testing and it’s gonna be awesome.
Holy crap that’s awesome. I don’t have a compatible speaker yet, but that makes me want one for sure.
