Now that I’m using stickier bait this this is a killing machine. I’m seriously considering a second for the basement.
Still having issues with the battery life?
Excellent, thanks!
Unfortunately no - the battery life is abysmal. I replaced the batteries with brand new, fresh Energizer batteries about two weeks ago. I just checked the status and it’s at 29% when no mice being zapped.
I bought rechargeable batteries to try. I’m awaiting this set of batteries to die before putting them in.
Hmmm… Mine is holding steady at 74% after a few weeks. What’s your reporting / sleep interval?
24 hours for both.
There’s gotta be something wrong… Defective?
I’m on a Hub V1; maybe less Z-Wave chatter. I have no further clues…
@krlaframboise any plans on adding Device Health capability? I may be the only person that finds it reliable But it would be nice to have since this device doesn’t usually get tripped often and may be in remote locations.
Are there specifications from SmartThings available for Device Health???
nope! Just reverse engineering.
Add them to http://thingsthataresmart.wiki please?
I’ve added it to most of my DTHs, but I don’t have the device right now so I wouldn’t be able to test it.
If you’re willing to test it, I’ll implement the changes when I have some free time and PM you the new version.
That works for me!
Ok. So mine is still killing batteries. It eats 4 AAs in about a month. I have reporting set to 24 hrs. I’ve tried Eneloop rechargeable batteries, but the unit will not work with them. The LED stays steady red and the app does not report/refresh. I believe there is a fault on my unit. Should I just email support from the Dome site?
thanks - good to know - so 5x NIMH ought to do it.
Ok - props to Dome. I wrote to Dome via the ‘Contact Us’ option on their site. I explained the issue and linked this thread in the response. Within an hour I had a responses asking for proof of purchase and address. Within an hour of my reply they’ve shipped a replacement and provided a prepaid tag to ship the faulty unit back.
How is everyone’s use of this?
My first night I caught a mouse. Now it’s been a month and I have had two “trips” but no cooked mouse. Not sure if it’s the unit or they aren’t on it long enough?
Wondering if it’s smartthings or small mice that aren’t hitting both plates long enough. The first one it killed was quite small
When tripped, the unit itself will have it’s LED flash (for the duration you can set in the configuration options… I think the default is 24 hours).
If the LED is flashing, then the unit genuinely tripped, and it is not a SmartThings issue.
I have had only 1 “false alarm” … indeed, the unit LED was flashing. I figured it was either a very fast mouse (there is a slight delay for - safety?), or perhaps an insect or other ghost trigger.
Yes I believe the LED was flashing both times so it looked legit.
I think they are just very small and don’t always touch both pads
I learned the hard way that you don’t have to touch both pads to trigger it and once triggered, it sometimes takes 3-4 seconds to start zapping. The mouse is probably going in and out of it too quickly so try using bait that they can’t grab and run.
