New SmartThings Alexa skill (2020)

It just starts and stops working randomly. It started a couple days ago, then stopped. Maybe this is the permanent fix and not just a fluctuation this time???

I think Lars has fixed it. It has never gone three days without going back down

@Lars was playing/pausing TVs recently added? I swear I tried it a couple weeks ago with no luck, but it worked last night with both Alexa and Google Home with my Q70.

@Automated_House Play pause has been there all along  However, the playback controls might vary a bit from app to app on the TV (e.g. some features might work on say Netflix but not when playing music in Spotify). It is up to each application vendor on what features they support.

@Abhijeet_Ghosh For the problem with Alexa routines and locks (both of these are affected because they rely on events sent from SmartThings to Amazon), we have not fixed it unfortunately but it just seems to come and go for some users. We are investigating though!

I was hoping I could start working on some automation ideas that involved contact sensors, but if it stopped working it would be a nightmare, so I will hold off.

It worked for two consecutive days, I thought they had fixed it, but today the routines stopped working again. It will be best to wait for an official response from @Lars and the ST team.

Yes. Lars mentioned this in his latest post.

Hello there. Same problem here. If you solve the problem please let me know.

Lars will post a message when the fix is created. Until then, we just wait.

Thanks Lars. My ST door sensor is having issue w/ Alexa routine for some reasons. The door open / close event will not trigger Alexa routine all the sudden.

This is an ongoing chronic issue that has being coming and going away for the last month or so. Did you recently upgrade the Alexa skill from “SmartThings classic” to “SmartThings” ? If so, you will just have to wait until lars announces that it is fixed or gives us a fix. If you just recently integrated SmartThings into Alexa (April 2020 onward), you were automatically given this new skill, and you will just have to wait. If you still have the classic skill (check in my skills in Alexa, it got renamed in April). If you have the classic skill, it is a completely different issue. However, the solution to the classic skill issue requires disabling of the skill, which will automatically force you to move to the new skill and encounter this issue. Its a loophole your going to have to endure until the new SmartThings skill is freed of all its bugs.

I upgrade to new SmartThings Alexa skill over a month ago. All routines worked just fine but door senor routines started to have issues about one weeks ago. I guess I have to wait like you said.

Thanks Abhijeet_Ghosh!

You’re in the same situation as me, so this is the correct forum. Lars will probably have a fix ready soon.

We have one more developer now looking into the issue of routines/events. She might reach out to anyone who has given me their Samsung account.

Today, we launched support for a new oven model.

We have also added better control for blinds, you can now use “open/close the bedroom shades” as well as “raise/lower the blinds”. Raise/Lower will do +/- 25% if blind supports 0-100 control, otherwise it will work the same as Open/Close.

For this to work, you need to do a new device discovery “Alexa, discover my devices”.

Does this mean a specific Samsung model # or a new integration model that covers all Samsung ovens?

Just one new model range I believe, not all unfortunately.

What exactly can one do through Alexa with a Samsung oven?

Preheat and turn off.
