New scheduler (Codename: Ticker) being rolled out

@tgauchat

Make sure to update your “Weather Station” app through the IDE. Probably died on the old scheduler and hasn’t been restarted. That will resolve your problem.

Thanks! – That fixed it!
Unfortunately I just sent it a Support Request #201279 … I’m curious if they’ll make the same suggestion (no cheating and telling them the answer ).

###So

  1. What’s the non-Community Customer experience like in this situation? I didn’t even know I had a “Weather Station App” … it doesn’t show up in the mobile App list of my “SmartApps” – let alone know that it had any relationship to Smart Lighting requirements! I guess you’re counting on them to contact Support?

  2. Are you guys working on an automatic remedy for kick-starting all the interconnected SmartApps to save Customer’s from self-diagnostic effort?

  3. Gotta be 100% frank here; I posted this problem under the “DST” Topic about a week ago and spent, well, quite a non-trivial amount of time to try to be a good Community citizen and post the most detailed debugging information. I super appreciate your prompt and absolutely correct solution, but overall, I think I will be reluctant to be as detailed in the future if I suspect there is a simple solution. And yet I hate to go back and forth with a bunch of questions… in short: If you think the problem I experienced is typical, is it posted in the Support Knowledge Base so the resolution is easy to find?

Can you clarify? Is this some hidden app/device installed by default?

Ask @slagle… I don’t know anything about it.

I thought Location Sunrise & Sunset Events were intrinsic to the platform; this extra complexity seems unnecessary, though if it works consistently then I don’t care.

It’s available through the IDE and is a SmartApp that runs to set the sunrise and sunset times for your location. Sunrise Events are sent from the platform level.

Well done guys! Hopefully a major platform issue resolved so it’s great to hear about the rollout. Fingers crossed for a successful future

New scheduler problem? this is my good morning routine for weekend and it’s set to run on 3/23? you guys at ST are ahead of our time? @slagle Am I reading that wrong?

No, but you misunderstand. Your daily event for today (22) already happened (except it looks like it may have failed based on the execution time of over 43 seconds), and the same event for tomorrow is scheduled. It should be like that every day. What would be bad is if for Scheduled Jobs the Next Run Time was in the past, or nothing was scheduled.

If you want this to run more reliably, you might try 3 minutes before or after 7:00.

The schedule still runs, but you have the app restricted by days, so it will run, check the days, and if the days aren’t correct it will end. Pretty standard.

I read it as it should be scheduled for Saturday and not today or tomorrow. It’s a weekend (Sat/Sun) schedule.

It wasn’t suppose to run last night or tomorrow. It’s scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at 7PM only.

Sat / Sun is a restriction. So it’s going to run every day at 7, and if it finds that it’s restricted, it doesn’t do anything.

What was shown above is for 7AM.

thanks… typo… good to know that it still run daily.

I have noticed that my most simple of rules, turning a light on/off at scheduled time failed when I moved to “ticker.” I had to delete the rule and recreate for the scheduling automation to work.

A minor bug, and seemingly par for the course; however, it may be worth noting that some of our rules may just have to be deleted and recreated for this to be as smooth as we would have liked.

Oops…i meant to post this in the MELT-DOWN thread…

This was my question exactly!

We have been planning to roll out the new scheduler since January. It was currently in beta testing when the SHM issues started to happen. We decided to do a wider release to alleviate some stresses that were being created by the older scheduler. It dramatically improved the reliability of schedules on the platform. Work is still ongoing to fix the issues surrounding SHM.

That sounds like y’all made a good decision. I’ve seen a major improvement.
I was also hoping to be a part of the beta testing.
