What do I have to do when I get a new phone if I’m using it with the app for presence detection?

I’m trading in an IPhone X for a 16. I tend to hold on to my devices for a long time before upgrading so I’m a little rusty with what I have to do.

In the app, under Menu, Cog (settings), Get your location from this phone.

Do I have to turn it off on my old one first?

turn off get location for this iPhone first on the old iPhone. I would recommend performing a fresh install of the app on the new iPhone vs a transfer of the app from the old iPhone. once installed on new iPhone… enable get location for this iPhone. edit any existing Routines if needed.

My wife just got a new phone and it was better to leave the old phone alone. ST will ask you when you say “get location from this phone” if you want to switch the routines to this phone from the old phone–then you don’t have to edit all of them and they don’t get turned off/disabled. (This was Android, not iOS)

Just got a new phone and presence is broken. Tried every step possible. There was an update on Oct 17 to the app so maybe a combo of iPhone 16, ios18.01 and latest app update. Waiting to hear back from support.

Version of your iOS app? I have’nt seen any app update being pushed out this week. May just be it has not rolled out for me yet.

Did you go to Menu > Settings and check if it allowed you to migrate to the new phone for presence?

Support told me they updated the app on the 17th but I just checked version history in the App Store and no update last week.

Yes I went to menu and settings and checked get location from this iPhone.

Basically, I unchecked on my old phone and signed out of old phone. I installed on new phone, signed in and checked the location box, set location always and precise. Also check advanced site.

did you install the ST app by transfer from the old phone to new phone or a fresh install?

I restored via iCloud and it installed the ST app. So I assume that is the same as a transfer. Then I followed the process I listed below. Could it be confused with the old phone even thought I removed and deleted?

try:

  • disable get location for this iphone in the app
  • sign out
  • remove the app
  • perform a fresh install from the app store
  • sign in
  • enable get location for this iphone

that is my recommendation - will it work or not :man_shrugging:
