New Aqara FP300 battery powered human presence sensor (Matter, Thread) 2 yr battery

Aqara have announced a battery powered multi sensor including mmwave. I’m sure it won’t have all the features of the usb powered one, and there will be some compromises to extend battery life, but it’s very interesting nonetheless. I await with interest to see in detail the capabilities , will it support zoning for example?

“multi-zone”

Most people will be excited for the FP300 — its latest presence sensor. Presence sensors are far more accurate than motion sensors but they’re more expensive, so there have been very few available in Apple Home thus far.

It uses a combination of mmWave and PIR sensors to accurately detect when a person is in the room versus other motion. Plus, compared to the previous models, it’s entirely battery powered.

Over Thread, the battery will last two years and with Zigbee it will last three. Like the FP2, it can be set up to create multiple virtual zones for separated automations.

WANT! NOW!

Edit: on the other hand, it’s Aqara and all the nice features will only be available when it’s connected to an Aqara hub…

Yeah, I’m thinking the zoning stuff might need an aqara hub to set it up. But I guess we will find out more detail when the reviews come in

“Multi-zone routines” in aqara world doesn’t necessarily mean that a single device has multiple zones. It could just mean that detection in the FP 300 zone could be used to, say, turn on a light elsewhere. I’m not saying that is what it means, but it might be. One blogger has already written

FP300 does not have zoning features, fall/sleep detection, and multiple person detection.
.
It’s some kind of… upgraded FP1E with built in t° and h% sensors.

It doesn’t mean they’re right either, but since this is all still pre-release, I think we’ll have to wait and see what is actually available to order when the time comes.

And HomeKit news, which is usually very precise when it comes to engineering details, has specifically said that the FP 300 does not have multiple zones for itself.

Whilst FP300 isn’t a replacement for the FP2, due to the option for up to 30 separate zones with the latter, it does offer more functionality than the FP1E, with the extra sensors, and the ability to use either Thread or Zigbee.

Going to get one as soon as possible. We’ll see…

Agreed, but if that’s what’s meant that’s true of any ordinary motion sensor. I already use a motion sensor in the hall to turn on a light in the bathroom, there’d be nothing new or revolutionary about that.

All true.

The revolutionary aspect will be running an MM wave sensor on batteries with a decent battery life. Even if it’s only one zone.

The Aqara FP300 could be my first battery powered M/T device!

My dream is to have a purely M/T smart home by the end of the year…

Won’t happen, but anyway.

I hope they don’t release it and completely ignore it when it comes to updates like happened with the previous Matter over Thread P2 door sensor and the P2 motion sensor. They didn’t enable the smart button, the tamper alert, the sensitivity or cool down settings, nothing, not even with the M3 hub which has been out for a year already.

The marketing material still announces those features that are not there and probably will never arrive.

What are you using as thread hub? Stations or tvs?

Aeotec SmartThings Hub.

Now on uk site. At £50 it’s not the cheapest. Would like to see a review on this first before buying, especially on the detection speed and reliability. I’d plan to use it in a high traffic area so it would need to be v reliable and fast.
