NEW Advanced User App for SmartThings Web!

4 posts were split to a new topic: Multiple ST Hubs in one mesh network?

For virtual devices that run locally on a SmartThings hub
the virtual deviceā€™s driver field is empty.

In my opinion, the name of the virtual device driver has also been seen here before.
Does anyone else have the same situation?

The local virtual devices have the Virtual Switch driver under the hood. All my virtual devices running locally are VIRTUAL devices using my own Edge driver and they present in the same way in the AWA.

I think it is just a case of the AWA needing a bit of a tweak to handle VIRTUAL devices sensibly. As far as I know you canā€™t change the Edge driver powering a VIRTUAL device on the fly. There are probably enough bits in the same place for it to do the wrong thing.

Addressing the specific question, I am pretty sure that Iā€™ve seen the name of the Edge driver displayed too. It is ā€˜a good thingā€™ if they removed it to stop people trying to change it. It would have been ā€˜a better thingā€™ if they just made it a read-only field.

A post was split to a new topic: Rules API Being Deprecated?

Iā€™m getting the following error. Itā€™s been like this for 3 days. I tried the ā€œrecoverā€ link, but it says my info doesnā€™t match my login name.

Things to try:

  • clear browser cache
  • use a private/incognito tab
  • try a different browser
  • disable any ad blocking extensions

If still unable, contact ST support directly and report the issue

Yes, Iā€™ve been getting the timed out error and have to use QR scan to get in. Google login is also still broken. It might be due to VPN or something, but nobody at Samsung support seemed to have any clue on even how to make a ticket for it, so Iā€™ll just work around it with QR.

It ended up into the support ā€˜pass the buckā€™ round of contacting smartthings, they said itā€™s an account issue to get sent there, then they send it back to smartthings when you tell them which site it is. Typical uselessness of modern support.

I just noticed I am getting this error, too.

The last time this happened it was broken at their end, and everyone here kept saying things like ā€œclear browser cache, private tab, other browserā€, etc. None of that helped back then, either. It didnā€™t start working until some group inside Samsung fixed the back end.

That this can repeatedly happenā€¦ and not be immediately resolved (and fixed to never happen again)ā€¦ is an example of what SmartThings has devolved into.

Last time this exact error happened to me (Aug 28, 2023):

I gave up trying to get in after playing browser games on my end. And a week later it just started working again (Sep 6, 2023):

Now itā€™s possible to create Local Virtual Switches using Advanced User App.

my_smartthings_com Create Local Virtual Devices Selection List

Itā€™s also possible to make Local Dimmer Switch.

When will it be possible to see the zigbee mesh? It is essential to know which route

A nice addition to the my.smartthings.com-advanced features
Now from the Rules list you can see both the routines made with the SmartThings application and Rules API rules.

Edit 1:

Also Rules API ruleā€™s Logic can be seen:

Also Rules API ruleā€™s JSON

Edit 2: @nayelyz
The Logic function only works partially. In some rules the If part has no conditions at all ( only standard text ).

However, in some rather complex rules, the Logic function works fine.

Edit 3: @nayelyz informed that the engineering team confirmed they released the fix (to edit 2 issues) yesterday 19. June 2024.

Now this Rules API rulesā€™ documentation works great.
This is an excellent tool for studying how rules work.

Thanks for the heads up. It also shows ā€œSmart lightingā€ recipes.

The Smart Lighting rules are also listed. Oh, beaten to it.

Thatā€™s almost all of them. It is also possible to determine the names of Rules created by app tokens and what devices they use. I donā€™t think you can view them though, or know which app owns them. I also donā€™t know if you can get them through the front door like the others.

Great newsā€¦ When will it be possible to edit the JSON code of the API rule? This would take automation to another level

I see it says ā€œRules are read-only for nowā€ while the Enabled button is greyed out, so looks good

Not all of them. The only Smart Lighting rules I have remaining involve syncing/mirroring devices. None of them are listed.

Snarky comment: I note that ā€œscenesā€ are still called scenes in the Advanced Web UI

Totally agree with you. Perhaps itā€™s intentionalā€“for, say, more ā€œadvancedā€ usersā€“but Iā€™ll bet they just havenā€™t gotten around to it. I hope itā€™s left alone and ā€œscenesā€ can remain named properly!

I hope they get rid of the things. It makes no sense for them to have a separate existence as they are just rules without ā€˜ifā€™ statements. It is even more nonsensical that they are in the public API but are managed exclusively by client apps.

Although I think ā€˜manually run routinesā€™ isnā€™t the best description of them, I do think the client app has the right idea by presenting them together with the ā€˜automatic routinesā€™.

What they desperately need to do is to replace the ability to execute a scene in rules with the ability to execute an arbitrary rule. That would be game changing.

Interesting, the only Smart lighting rules I have also involve syncing/mirroring devices. And they are all listed in the Advanced Users App.
