I no longer have a Ring doorbell but I went through the same thing when I had it. I wrote a small smartapp to handle this, here is a thread about it.

For some reason the sunset sunrise event handlers that are commented out in the initialize sub don’t seem to fire as I understand they should that is why I am using the scheduled events.
