Thanks guys maybe I will try the 3M Velcro Command Strips!
I can confirm that.
As strange as it may seem I’ve never purchased any 3M Velcro Command Strips before is this what I want?
Yes, those are the ones I use. No problems so far. They seem to distribute the weight better.
Thanks I’ll order some! Just wanted to add I’ve had the SmartThings Motion Sensor going for a few days now and it’s working flawlessly to turn on my hall lights. The sensor is maybe 12-15 feet from the bridge but no issues so far without using a repeater.
I have Lutron Caseta switches and use the classic and new app lighting automation. If I tell the automation to only run if the light switch is off it malfunctions. How did you get yours to work with WebCore (I don’t know what that is).
Webcore is a community-created automation creator. Very powerful. See the FAQ: (The topic title is a clickable link)
Have been working with SmartThings for over a year to fix the SmartThings lighting automation that does not work. After a year they told me they won’t fix it.
All I was trying to do which is already in their automation (but doesn’t work) is to
Turn on my deck lights (lutron caseta switch) from sunset to sunrise on motion detected on the deck (IRIS 3326L motion detector) but only if the light switch is off. Turn light back off after motion has stopped for one minute. I set this up so that the routine would not run IF I turned the light on manually under which circumstance I would turn it off when I was done. Doesn’t work for over a year.
Works fine if I leave the part out to only run if the switch is off but then when ianuually turn on the light and walk out on my deck, the automation turns the light off on me one minute after I sit down and relax.
Amazing to me that Samsung would not fix it.
Hmmmm…does the same automation work if the device you are testing for off is a virtual switch instead of the Lutron switch?
If so, you Might be able to proxy it by creating a virtual switch which mirrors the Lutron switch, but having the automation use the virtual switch as the filter condition.
Webcore is a smart app to replace all other smart apps. Instead of running the Smart lighting app (which is very basic), in Webcore, you can create logic (aka pistons) to control things exactly how you want. Webcore unleashes a lot of power for automations.
I attached a screen shot of my kitchen lighting piston for example. You don’t need to know how to write code! It’s all selectable (like drop down boxes) and it puts it in this code looking format. It takes a little playing around.
Research Webcore and get it installed…
Question to the group, I’m trying to accomplish the same thing as @mike2874 , I have Lutron switches and would like to use a motion sensor to turn them on. I saw the recommendation for the SmarThings motion sensor, and would like to utilize one, but I’m seeing that it appears to be out of stock everywhere. Did Samsung discontinue this device? Or is it’s availability due to covid (like many things)? Or something else?
Many thanks in advance!
Nick
Samsung has made the decision that they no longer want to be in the business of selling or supporting home automation hardware, including the hub. So they are turning that over to partners. Samsung will continue to provide the smartthings app and cloud platform.
The partner in the US and the UK will be Aeotec. The first set of devices are identical to the existing smartthings brand devices, just with a different logo. They are just starting to be available for pre-order now, so there has been a gap in the supply chain.
Here’s the thread with the official announcement:
An Update Regarding our Hardware
That said, as long as you have smartthings, you can use any brand of motion sensor that works with smartthings. So there are quite a few choices.
And again, as discussed above in the thread, if you get a zig bee or Z wave motion sensor you will have to get a hub as well. That includes the smartthings motion sensor.
By the way, are you aware that Lutron now makes their own motion sensor to work with Caseta Devices? If you just get that one you won’t need a hub or use smartthings at all, you just use the Lutron app. But it only works with the other Lutron Caseta Devices, it’s invisible to smartthings. So it’s not for everyone, but it is a new option.
