I just created a virtual fridge out of curiosity and the Energy app immediately replaced my Smart Meter with Connected Devices as my selected measurement method for ‘total energy’ without any interaction. It became rather confused. Despite Smart Meter being my only source for that data available in the Settings and being selected, it thought I had Connected Devices selected (meaning appliances etc). Deleting the virtual fridge didn’t help.
Deleting and reinstalling the Energy app restored sanity, including historical data.
The map of carbon used by country is pretty pointless, large countries have no information provided for the list of worse to best, so as it stands little Cyprus, a beautiful island in the Mediterranean is emitting more carbon than China and the USA…
Usa carbon data has just appeared on the map for me… oh
Cyprus is producing most of its power from oil at the moment so its emissions per unit will be high, and that is what the carbon intensity is about.
It is currently telling me that the UK is producing the largest percentage of electricity from gas and is suggesting what the best times of day might be for using energy use to minimise emissions. Fair enough but it isn’t really practical.
There is a minor issue with the settings for gas. My rate requires three decimal places but when I enter the third the app complains that the value is out of range and refuses to accept it.
I tried to take advantage of this “member permissions setting feature.” I have four members with four distinct e-mail addresses (and four Samsung accounts) but only two distinct firstname/lastname combinations:
My Name jxxxr@gmail.com (owner)
My Name jxxxr+mobile@gmail.com
Partner Name dxxxj+ipad@gmail.com
Partner Name dxxxj+iphone@gmail.com
These four accounts distinguish phones used for presence detection (mobile, iphone) from tablets left at home, whose “presence” is not relevant to home monitoring.
Here’s the problem: I changed Partner from “Full Access” to “Control devices only” - and the jxxxr+mobile@gmail.comaccount was deleted! Very weird and very annoying.
On the other hand - thanks for adding a placeholder and alert to automations when an input goes away! On the other hand, I couldn’t fix the “Change Security Mode” action - it said I had to install the Home Monitor - but deleting the action and adding it got me past that.
My ‘Total Energy’ spontaneously changed to ‘Connected Devices’ again while I was in the app, even though I don’t have any and the option isn’t available to me. This time reinstalling the app seems to have destroyed historical data.
Ah, it seems that the data is tied to whoever owns the app. I reinstalled again using a different Location member and the data is back.
