I have also been told that if you don’t use Internet Explorer you will sometimes have issues with it putting in characters other than what you typed. Sounds like it needs some lovin…
I found this thread after recently buying a LimitlessLED kit and then adding a SmartThings hub. It’s not working as I want, and I’m hoping to find some answers in these forums.
Firstly, let me say that my choices are limited because I live in an old house and the light I want to control is on a three-way circuit that does not have a neutral connection. Rewiring is not an option. The LimitlessLED bulb seemed to be a good solution because the smart stuff is in the bulb and even if someone forgot it’s now a smart bulb and used the old switch, it comes back on at the previous setting.
I installed the LimitlessLED bulb, their wireless hub and the separate remote and all are working as expected.
What I really want to do it to have the light come on automatically when we approach the house, either through the ST proximity tags or IFTTT location-based rules. I emailed Hamish at LimitlessLED and asked if they support IFTTT or if I’d have to go through something like the SmartThings Hub and he told me I’d need both hubs.
Here’s where my problems start. The “documentation” for the LimitlessLED / MiLight hub is bare bones at best (I can see why people think it’s just re-badging of existing Chinese product). Hamish told me I need both hubs but has not replied since then to any requests for how to get the two to see each other. Searching these forums, I found a post from him that had a link to a github page which was supposed to be the code for integrating into SmartThings, but that link goes to a 404 page. I’m not really a programmer, so I don’t know how much help that would have been anyway.
Basically I suppose my question comes down to this: does LimitlessLED really integrate into SmartThings or am I just wasting my time and money. I have a few days to decide whether to keep the ST hub or send it back, so I’m hoping I can find out the answer in time.
I also own a LimitlessLED setup. As of right now, I have not been able to use it with SmartThings. Hamish has been very hit or miss with getting any answers. We just need to wait for SmartThings to fully open up local lan support and I expect it to start working at that point.
Thanks Jeff.
I didn’t buy it through Indiegogo, I just found it through a Google search, but it seems like I’m on the bleeding edge of what can be done with my combination of ancient wiring and modern technology!
Maybe I’ll return the ST hub for now and just use the LimitlessLED remote until things have settled down.
@GadgetGav I think Smartthings is the way to go I have also been waiting on a bulb solutions and I think there one that should be in play by the end of March 2014. Aeon Labs is scheduled to release the DSB29 LED Bulb. Here is there quote. "Z-Wave lighting control moves from the switch and direct to the bulb. Each bulb allows for dimming, colour and scene control from a remote, network or schedule. Like I stated release is first quarter 2014.
Thanks @llcanada. I had looked at teh Aeon Labs motion sensor too, so it might make sense to have multiple products from the same vendor. For now though, I’m returning the SmartThings hub (the LimitlessLED is cheap enough I’ll keep it for now) and wait for the devices and integration to catch up with what I want to do.
Any progress on this? I currently have a Veralite and there is a plugin for that works with these. I’m looking to switch over to ST, but would like this functionality. Thanks
Smart Things do not appear to be interested in supporting UDP support for home automation… this is their response for 2 years… I have tried my best, and even purchased the dev maker kit from kickstarter… I even sent Smartthings free $100s of dollars lighting pack with all our LimitlessLED products, but they still do not respond to my emails. This is the only response I could get out of them…
“I just heard back from our firmware team, we don’t support UDP right now.” -Andrew Urman 27Aug14.
@hamishahern hi sorry for revive this topic, but im kind new on this, so i want but like 16 gu10 bulbs im ready!!! however im not sure about home control,i want buy the Smart hub and use the Samsung app to control the lights, is possible do that with the samusng app or even change colors? Thanks!
Hi Zen_Kun, send me an email to support at limitlessled.com
Cheers,
Hamish.
@hamishahern @ZeN_KuN Could a possible solution to control the lights be to use the Arduino shield and then program the Arduino to send the proper UDP packets to the limitlessled wifi bridge after receving the commands from smartthings?
YES, a middle man (arduino) approach looks to be the best way to go… UDP has been ruled out by SmartThings due to their lack of interoperability. HTTP is the only interoperability available by smartthings.
first thanks @khromov i can try this i biught 5 phillips hue on cybermonday very cheap, however ill try limitless led for the rest of my rooms. and @hamishahern i sent an email to support as you suggested, and they never reply back
im new into arduino im wondering if you can hepl me with setup or any instalation or example tutorial on internet? Thanks
I switched to v2 Hub and it works. The only thing like it has been reported is that the switch in ST will turn back on to appear it is on when the lights are not on. So one has to press to turn it off and then press again to turn off. Sometimes it is the same to turn it off. Multiple presses to get the lights to come on or off. Other wise, I like it and am pleased to be able to control the MiLights finally. Thanks for your work!!!
Hi @Zen_KuN yes i see your support email, sorry you can not control the bulbs using that samsung app, because the LimitlessLED wifi bridge uses specific UDP commands, I doubt that samsung app is interopable with UDP, nor can you enter custom commands. There are a lot of home remote apps that do support custom udp remote commands. for example apps for home stereo, tv ir blasters, volume control etc.
@hamishahern Hi Hamish, I just found this thread and could see a couple of years ago you mentioned formal ST milight support… I was just wondering if you had a roadmap yet? Jared has done a great job on the unofficial integration but it relies on his personal cloud server which isn’t always available and still needs alot more development to be a candidate for everyday use (e.g states not saved, modes not supported etc).
I’ve got nearly 50 milight and easybulb bulbs at home and several wifi bridges so its a big thing for me… I’d happily pay for a hardware based bridge to connect to ST (even if arduino or pi based etc). Is there any likliehood of something being available in the near future?
Thanks,
dk
@hamishahern im thinking to buy 12 gu10 bulbs, however im not sure if ill need the bridge for all the bulbs or its jist to “change” the colors by zone?and do i need the remote control? o can i use an android app to change the colors? for the “bridge” or individual bulbs like phillips hue. and last
the shipping price is so high
80 usd shipping? i can wait 10 days and get a cheaper shipping price
@ZeN_KuN To control via the app or via ST then you will need the Bridge as the bulbs do not connect directly to your network, the bridge is the interface between your wifi network and the bulbs. Bulbs are arranged into groups, each Bridge supports 4 groups. You can have many bulbs in a group (more than you’ll ever likely need). Colours, dimming and modes can only be set against a group, you cannot send a command to a specific bulb, only to zones containing 1 or more bulbs.
If you are just using a local remote then that can pair with the bulbs directly, so doesn’t require a bridge. Just like the bridge the remote has 4 zones and works on the same principle.
Hope this helps.
awesome thanks for the info i guess ill buy this one @hamishahern any chance to make the shipping price cheaper?
please T_T
