I just seemed to run into this. For a few weeks, I have been having problems with my porch light dimmer. I ended up opening up a case with support and they were supposed to send me one. Yesterday, I shut the power off the dimmer and the switch for my front yard outlet next to it. I was going to change the box from a 2-gang to a 3-gang to accommodate a wireless remote for my Hampton Bay fan (also on SmartThings through the Zigbee module). I got the 3-gang box in there and ran the wires back to the existing dimmer and switch and powered it up since it still worked with the routines, scenes and Alexa. It just was not transmitting confirmation of the commands.
I restored power from the breaker and it is working like it should, again.
My kitchen overhead lights are exhibiting the same behavior. I pulled the air gap on it to see if that will fix it.
How could you even update firmware if it were over Z-Wave? There has been a couple of flaky things I have fixed by flipping the breaker for a bit and turning it back on.
No the firmware I mentioned is not for for the Leviton switches themselves, its for the Z-Wave radio inside the SmartThings hub, comments from people testing it are very promising, apparently improves Z-Wave communication and fixes issues like devices going offline, out of sync, etc. So it looks like it may help hereā¦
That said, no, I have not been able to get it or confirm this as in order to be able to get the Z-Wave Beta firmware you first need to get the SmartThings Hub Beta firmware (0.20.11+) as previous Hub firmware versions are not able to upgrade the internal Z-Wave radio firmware⦠I requested to be added to to this Hub Beta firmware but was told its too late so I have to wait for that Beta to end and be pushed to everyoneā¦
I have three Leviton switches; two DZ15S and one DZ6HD.
They all periodically go offline. Deleting the switches via the IDE, doing a factory reset on them and then adding them again seems to help. Except when it doesnāt.
I have a Leviton Scene controller that I have controlling these lights and they stop working when they appear to be offline. However, I can also continue to turn on/off with the app, but seems glitchy at times. It doesnāt always work 100%.
In the past, I would factory reset and re-add, which would work only for a short while. Very disappointing.
In IDE my v3 hub firmware is showing 000.025.00027.
Iām biting that bullet, finally. Ordered a stick from @TheSmartestHouse since I needed some more Zooz switches and dimmers. When the hardware arrives, Iāll buy the Homeseer z-flash tool.
Progress with my recalcitrant Leviton switches. I got my Z-wave stick from @TheSmartestHouse (spent a few extra bucks to get the S2 version, who knows. somedayā¦) and downloaded the Homeseer Z-flash utility.
When I added the z-wave stick to SmartThings as a secondary controller I enumerated all my Z-wave devices. But none of three Leviton devices showed up in the list and the Z-flash log window showed various errors.
I went thru the trouble of resetting the Leviton dimmer in the kitchen and reset Z-flash and the stick to be its own Z-wave network. After a couple of fumbles I was able to update the Leviton dimmer from 1.17 to 1.20 and then to get it back into SmartThings.
Iām going to keep an eye on this one for a couple of days before I bother with the other two.
After I updated the Leviton dimmer yesterday, the new SmartThings app suddenly showed two Zooz ZEN26 switches and a Samsung Zigbee moisture detector as disconnected. One of the Zooz switches went back to normal when I flipped it on manually. The remaining Zooz and the moisture detector are still showing disconnected in the app.
Thing is, this is totally false. The IDE shows them online and they work perfectly normally in the classic app.
Since I managed to update the one Leviton without bricking it, I decided to push ahead. All Levitons are now updated and, so far, working normally.
Ok Iām going to bring this one back as well⦠New user here have a pair of these dimmers and one is pretty consistently reporting as offline even though if I use it through the app anyhow it is definitely sending and executing the commands. That said I am also using the custom handler others have mentioned here. The interesting thing is if I switch it back to a generic z-wave dimmer switch it comes right back and also seems to retain the custom settings from the other handler.
Iām also on 1.20 on both switches, is there anything else I should try? Iām guessing there is no firmware above 1.20 for these from what I can see?
I think thatās normal, expected behavior. I do the same thing with Zooz switches and dimmers.
FWIW, Iāve never bothered with custom handler for the Leviton switches and dimmers. And all my Levitons have been fine since updating to 1.20 (knocks on wood)
Are your Levitons truly offline? When the app says these are disconnected, does the IDE agree (showing them offline)? I had two Zooz switches and a Peanut Zigbee socket show as disconnected in the new app for a couple of days. But the IDE showed them online and they worked normally in the old app.
As far as newer versions, googling for Leviton Z-wave firmware update the other day turned up an Apple homekit page that mentioned updating some Leviton device to 1.4.something. No idea if it was the ones discussed here and not sure how to get the hex file if it is.
So the IDE actually shows them as offline⦠even though they are still reachable in the app which also shows them⦠offline Iām going to call Leviton and see if I can hunt down the 1.4 firmware⦠if thats a thing Iāll post it!
I could use some help on these Leviton Switches. I have several of the dimmable switches (DZ6HD) and the non-dimmable ones (DZ15S). I have problems with some of them showing as Offline in the SmartThings app. They donāt seem to correct themselves. Sometimes turning the power off to these switches will correct the issue but not always. Even though they show as Offline in the app, IDE shows them as HUB_DISCONNECTED and my Amazon Echo is able to turn them on and off, although it says it can not connect. I have fixed this on occassions by removing the switches and then re-adding them, but this is problematic as they then have to be re-added to all of my automations. Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this? I have seen some notes on updating the switch firmware, but Iām fairly new to this and it seems somewhat complicated. I travel a good deal and want to use the remote access capabilities that SmartThings enables, but the flakiness of these switches is making this difficult.
Here is the data for the current switch that is offline from IDE:
I have run Z-wave repair several times, it never seems to fix the issue. The only fix has been to remove and re-add. This is a pain as I travel alot and this canāt be done remotely. When the devices disconnect, I canāt tell what is working and what isnāt.
