Lannouncer alternative?

I was looking to implement something like Lannouncer to hook up my tablet to my echo for some voice announcements. My problem is my tablet is running 4.4.2 (I believe I need 5.1) and cannot be upgraded so I was wondering if there was an alternative I could use.

Thanks,
Scott

Maybe try VLC Thing? Not sure if it will work on an Android, but it may.

Thanks for the response but it does not look like it works with android. If there is nothing else I may have to set it up on a windows box or get a cheap tablet that runs 5.1 at least.

Then how about this one?
If you can set it up as a DLNA device, you should be able to use this.

Thanks, ill check it out.

You might try updating Android on the device or nip down to Frys and buy a cheap tablet. I (the author) bought one for $39 that I use as the primary announcing device. A refurb would do the job. If your time is worth even just $20/hour, it’s probably the cheapest way to go.

Yeah I think that’s where I am at. Like you said even if its just dedicated to voice announcements, its worth it.

Thanks,
Scott

I have it on my Kindle Fire HD 10 which is then paired to my Echo as a bluetooth speaker. Should work just fine on the cheap Fire tablet, too.

If I remember correctly, you have SharpTools already, right? You could subscribe to your desired attributes and have Tasker speak the desired output. SharpTools supports Android 4.x devices (and even back to 3.x).
