[IDEAS?] Presence detection when some has left

Hi All,

After some ideas to setup a detection system using lights.

Current solution:
Receive a notification from UniFi Doorbell or UniFi Bullet camera on mobile device.

Problem:
The garden is long. Often the delivery people ring once and run, lots of wasted time running up and down the garden.

Desired Fix:
Installing a lamp or lamps in the garden, these turn green when there’s a presence detected at the door, and turn red when presence is no more.

I have tried using a pressure sensor, but they dont always stand on it or they move around whilst waiting.
Tried using a PIR to detect every second and alert if no motion detected after 5 secs but it was inconsistent.

Looking forward to any suggestions :raised_hands:

Just to make sure you’re in the right place… This forum is for people who are using the Samsung SmartThings ™ Home automation platform, so all of the questions and answers are assumed to be in that context.

It’s a very popular forum, so it often comes up near the top in general home automation searches on Google, but it’s not a general forum.

Unfortunately, the Unifi devices do not currently have a smartthings integration. There used to be a community – built integration, but it stopped working after two factor integration was required.

It’s possible there might be one in the future, but no guarantees. At this point, smartthings has published its API and it is up to the device manufacturers to create and maintain the integration.

So… i’m sure you’ll get a lot of interesting ideas, this is a very creative community. But they are going to assume that you have a smartthings account and are working within that system. (You don’t need to have a smartthings hub to use the platform, but if you don’t, make sure you say so because that does change the possible solutions.) So I don’t know if that is something you’re interested in pursuing.

If not, the Reddit home automation subforum is brand agnostic, so you could try asking your question there.

Thanks JDRoberts, i believe I am in the right place, I’m not married to ubiquity. We are a Zigbee household running multiple hubs.

Also, can we not get ubiquity integration using Home Automation alongside Smartthings?

You wrote “ubiquity.” Your first post referred to Unifi devices. Two different brands.

Ubiquity is a WiFi router, and shouldn’t be an issue.

As for Unifi devices, I’m not sure what you meant by “ integration using Home Automation alongside Smartthings?”

Apologies, I meant Home Assistant.

Let me start again :relaxed:

I am looking for a Smartthings solution, one that will allow me to know when there is someone waiting at my front door, but more importantly let me know once they have left.

Ideally using sensors and smart bulbs.

Any suggestions welcome.
