wanted to reach out to the community and find out if anyone has a Harmony hub connected up to there SmartThings system and maybe can point out some tips on how to get things up and running and what its capabilities are (how is yours configured and what controls you have configured)
Many people here, including me, use Harmony. For many different things.
This is the basic FAQ (this is a clickable link)
Some people just use smartthings to trigger harmony activities from motion sensors or something like that.
Other people mix together home automation devices and entertainment devices, so when itās movie night the curtains close, the lights dim, the A/V stuff comes on.
Some people use the harmony button remote to toggle their lights on and off.
Itās a two-way integration. You can start things from the harmony side or the smart thing side.
However, itās always through the concept of harmony activities.
Was there something in particular you were interested in doing?
I get the basic concept of it, and Iām looking to do something similar to āOther people mix together home automation devices and entertainment devices, so when itās movie night the curtains close, the lights dim, the A/V stuff comes on.ā
My issue is that I donāt see how to actually get that accomplished. I can add the harmony hub in ST, but I donāt see any way to control entertainment devices from the SmartThings iOS app
Check out post 4 in the thread JD linked. It walks you through adding the harmony to ST, then adding the Harmony Trigger SmartApp, which is used to start or end activities from ST. Then you can create an ST Routine that would dim lights, close curtains and trigger a Harmony activity.
Alternatively, you can authorize your ST devices in Harmony and add them to the start/end sequences for activities, so Harmony could tell ST to turn off lights and such as part of starting the āWatch Movieā activity.
Note: you can only start or end activities from ST. You canāt control individual devices or send individual commands. Harmony doesnāt expose that in their API.
