Google Home UK release date and price?

I don’t think it uses Bing for the traffic / commute stuff. The journey it recommends for me is much better than the (awful) one Bing gives.

I bit the bullet and imported one from the US.

Works well with Nest and Hue and appears to work OK with Smartthings too.

If anyone has any questions I will do my best to answer them.

Yes, had one as was in NY on launch day and works fine. Just needed a 2pin to 3 pin plug adapter

Hi Mike,
have you set yours to US English?
I’ve got mine in UK mode and am finding it to be a bit of a doorstop. Nothing seems to work, Nest integrations, SmartThings, Google Play… Everytime I attempt it, i get the US English error.

Was hoping there was an easy way around this without changing the language.

What type of power plug is it? Is it a standard 12V plug?

Might be possible to buy a generic UK plug and plug it in

@Ashraf_Monzur, in case you’ve not got it sorted yet, just make sure you have US English enabled as the primary language on your phone if you want to setup stuff like Nest, Play and ST etc.

You only need to activate US English following the initial setup if you want to make any changes to the Google Home setup, like adding services, via the Home app on your phone.

We’ve had ours for a week or so and most stuff is working fine even with the language put back to UK English on my phone. In our case we are using Google Play Music, Nest, Netflix and SmartThings in addition to the general web functionality. Only niggle was that I needed to plug a Chromecast into my Sony Android TV as Sony have not pushed an update to allow casting by voice from the Home.

@ghesp, the power supply is outputting 16v at upto 2A, luckily it is a 110/220v one so you just need a cheap travel adaptor to plug it in.

For any developers out there, you can get hold of the Weave mobile app from the Google Developers site for Weave and have basic access to the devices like switches, lights and thermostats you have enabled on your Google Home associated account. To avoid having to switch language each time you want to alter any smart home groups in the Google Home app, you can configure them in this app instead. Also good for changing device and room names for easier identification when you try to interact with them via voice.

Google Store just released Google home and Google WIFI at UK Store - 129£

Yup, release date is the 6th April. Could be bye bye Alexa and hello Google come April!

Hi,

What is the different between US version vs UK version beside the power supply??

I am outside of UK, will it works similar to UK users?

i have 3 US google homes so im hoping i can switch to EU servers after the release date as long as i dont lose any features.

I have one imported from the US, change your language settings on your phone and in the Home app to UK and you get UK specific news feeds

Have you lost any features by doing so ? I did this when I had my echo and loft ITTT integration at the time

Mine should be here tomorrow

I’ve found a library that gives Audio Notification support I believe using TTS, so will get to work figuring out how it works when it arrives!

Just changed mine, Us Import, to UK and it get the UK voices and feeds - perhaps it really is that straightforward…
Whats the library for Audio Notifications?

changed from US to UK and haven’t lost any features but sadly still have the issue where i have to say "ok google " or hey google " twice half the time :frowning:

Curiosity…

How did you change from US to UK?

I have not changed mine over yet

In the app.
Settings. (Top left).
More settings.
Scroll down and you will see ‘Assistant Language’'
Click on that and pick English (UK)

Ah… interesting… thanks

So… if I leave the voice as US, I am on the American server, but if I change the voice to UK, I am on the European server

Is that right?

Yes that is correct
