Can users get the ability to control the Lighting mode on WindFree units via Routines on the SmartThings app?
Problem statement:
We have WindFree 3.0 units in our bedrooms. Anytime these units are turned off and back on, the Lighting mode defaults to On. This means that any Routine that turns the unit on will result in the display being lit up. This makes Routines unusable for bedroom units since the display is bright enough to wake someone up.
In the SmartThings app, users can use “Routines” to control every other setting on the WindFree unit. Could users be given the ability to control the Lighting mode as well?
p.s. If there’s a workaround that I’m missing, please let me know. I’ve done lots of tinkering, but I haven’t found anything that works.
After some tinkering I got it to work. The hardest part is that if you copy the json from a working rule that was created in the SmartThings app, you get errors. After troubleshooting that, I landed on the solution below. It’s perhaps not very elegant solution to just always have the light off, but it’s my preference for the bedroom unit.
