Exciting news (apparently) Aqara adds full compatibility of FP2 to SmartThings

Thing is, does anyone have any more detail on what full compatibility actually means. Are there any dependencies on the Aqara app?
Can you divide the room into zones and monitor and trigger with each zone?
Does the light sensor work?

Is it dependent on any particular firmware version?

Yes, you have to use the aqara app to set up the zones.

Can you divide the room into zones and monitor and trigger with each zone?

Yes, although I haven’t tested how well it works yet.

Does the light sensor work?

Yes, and you can create routines based on the Lux level, but I haven’t tested it yet.

Is it dependent on any particular firmware version?

Yes. 1.2.8_0006 and Aqara support says it does not work if you are using the China server.

Note: you probably already know this, but just for clarity: aqara makes two presence sensor models, the FP1 (Zigbee) and the FP2 (WiFi).

all of my answers and the screenshots in this post are for the FP2.

The FP2 is a Wi-Fi device and does not require an aqara hub for the SmartThings integration: it is account to account.

Works great and it’s pretty much real-time.

Thanks for the replies, can the setup of the sensor, defining zones etc be done. In SmartThings, or is that only from Aqara app? Can the zones be named ?

As I said, in my first post, you have to use the aqara app to set up the zones. You can name them there, but a friend tells me that they come over to the SmartThings app just as “zone 1, zone 2, etc. And you then have to use “zone management“ to rename them in the SmartThings app.

I respectfully disagree with a number of your assertions.
1, Not only do you need the aqara app to set up zones, but you also need the aqara hub obviously.
2, You also need the aqara hub to upgrade the firmware to make it ST compatible.
3, Zone names in the aqara app don’t just get “carried over” to ST. In ST they are zone1, zone2 etc but you can rename them in the ST app.

I have no plans to get an Aqara hub, so having a dependency on one for a firmware upgrade to make ST compatible would be a deal breaker.

An Aqara hub is not necessary. You do need to setup in the Aqara app where you create the zones. I have the FP2 connected to Smartthings without an Aqara hub. The FP2 connects via wifi to the Aqara app. I don’t own an Aqara hub and can update it’s firmware via just the Aqara app.

Excellent, good to hear

The fp2 model is a Wi-Fi device. It doesn’t need an aqara hub to connect to its app and get a firmware update. (The FP1 uses Zigbee and does need a hub. But that’s not what we’re talking about in this thread.)

Agreed, I knew it was a Wi-Fi device, that doesn’t preclude I notion that firmware updates could be delivered via a hub. That said, it’s good to hear there is no such dependency.

True, it’s always good to check to be sure. :sunglasses:
