We are considering listing a few pallets of the GE 40 amp heavy duty switches.
Potentially up to 200 of them.
Is anyone looking to buy these in bulk? Trying to gauge the labor effort vs return on investment of putting them all on eBay and selling them one by one.
We should probably mention that these are currently EOL, making them very hard to find, and that there are very few alternatives currently available, so some people have been using a dumb contactor with a smart switch as an alternative. But the model being listed for sale here comes in its own metal weatherproof box, which is a nice feature. It’s been a popular model in the community for many years.
WEATHERPROOF – A rugged, wall-mount, metal NEMA-3R enclosure with lockable door withstands the elements for outdoor use while protecting wiring and settings against tampering.
Also, it may be obvious, but these are on the US Z wave frequency so they can only be paired with a US frequency SmartThings/Aeotec V3 or ST V2 hub. They will not work with the “SmartThings station“ or any of the various Samsung smart television or Samsung smart appliance hubs.
@JDRoberts all good points, I don’t know how to gauge interest? Maybe people click the “like” or “heart” button. If I get enough I will put a batch of 50 on eBay I guess.
I’m late to the party here but I do believe there is a market for 200 of them. They sell on Ebay almost instantly. I bought one in 2020 for my pool filter at my main house in NJ, and wanted another for my spa at my seasonal house in Florida. I can’t find one anywhere and been looking for 2 years. Now, I’m selling the house with the pool, and I’m taking the switch with me. Luckily, I saved the 220v DPDT manual switch and box to replace it with.
There are a few on eBay right now, but they’re expensive. I got a few directly from Jasco just before they were discontinued. I purchased another one a few months ago on eBay for about 300 bucks. I’ve also seen them on a few other websites—one company is asking almost $600.
Edit: they are crap and they shouldn’t even exist. They don’t even work with heat tapes on roofs in Colorado. A whole team of electricians hates them. Better buy a pallet of 50 discontinued devices.
I tried one of those before I found the GE unit. It’s mostly plastic, and the place where you attach the wires—well, let’s just say it’s terrible. I think someone also mentioned something about a UL rating or something like that a while back. I’m not looking to burn my house down!
I agree..the GE was first class.. Our team of electricians hates the AeoTec ones…
The people on eBay with them usually hold inventory for warranty and install work.
They are used a ton in Colorado/Utah to control heat tape (snow melt) on roofs.
GE/Jasco has no intention on re-stocking, information directly from the manufacture rep. The WiFi ones don’t have the test of time these GE/Jasco do. While I don’t think Z-wave is the best answer on these, they are proven and fool proof.
There are five on eBay right now.. If you want/need a cold spare I would grab them. If you want a pallet of 50 of them let me know. For me it is not worth my time to break apart the bundle and run around to UPS shipping them..
I can’t use 50 of them. I cant imagine how much that would be or how much the shipping would be! Have you sold a pallet of them before? What was the cost?
From the negative reviews I could find: too large, too expensive, only two phases, terminals are “a bit fiddly”.
Here are some more reviews (doesn’t look like they filtered out the negative) and some of them are from ten years ago. It’s not just a random no-name thing from AliExpress, rather something that’s been around for a while.
Oh, and they are sold in Germany where the code is very strict.
