Wondering if assigning devices to rooms helps with the mesh layout, or if it’s purely for personal organization…
Purely organization, it has nothing to do with the mesh network for either Zwave or Zigbee.

It certainly helps reducing the time it takes for the SmartThings app to load - very noticeable if you have a lot of devices.
