Hi, everyone
First of all, I apologize for the inconvenience caused to many good people on the forum with this error in the English translation of about 50 custom capabilities, out of the almost 200 I have created to improve my shared edge drivers.
As I know that many of you don’t know the procedure to carry out translations in Smartthings, I’m going to put you in context of how tedious it is to carry out this translation process:
First you need to create a json or yml file to create the capability with all its attributes, values, and commands. This custom capability can be created with attribute names, values, and commands in the language that the developer wants to use. Altruistic or silly as I am, I created them in English instead of creating them in my native language, Spanish.
Then you need to create a json or yml file for the simple or multi-language presentation of the capability.
Then you have to create a json or yml file for each language you want to translate.
Then with the CLI you have to create or update to the API all the json or yml files one by one.
The easiest way to create all of these translation files is to copy and paste from a base translation file, which is automatically created by default with the tag “en” (English language) when you create the first presentation of each custom capability and then modify the values, label and tags to the desired language.
If no additional translations are created for a capability, the entire planet will see the default capacity display in English or the language in which the custom capability was created.
Some days ago, I was going through the process of updating some of my custom capabilities to the Spanish language, which is spoken by almost 600 million people, second native language on the planet, after Mandarin Chinese and unfortunately, in this copy-paste process, the json base files of the English translations were overwritten with the Spanish tags of about 50 custom capabilities and uploaded to the API.
Today, when I go to correct the error, I see that it would take many hours of work, which I do not have now, to manually reconstruct one by one all the damaged json files.
It is not an critical error that prevents the correct functioning of the drivers, in fact those of us who have not been lucky enough to be born in an English-speaking country live every day of our lives with drivers, applications, manuals, etc. … written in a language other than ours and despite everything, we strive to understand text in English without any problem.
Therefore, I reiterate my apologies for the error, there are many affected users who I really appreciate, but I won’t be able to solve it for now. However you can enjoy another 150 capabilities in your language, English, working in more than 40 shared edge drivers with hundreds of smartthings uncertified devices, which work perfectly if anyone who needs use them.
I wish you the best and maybe see you again later
