Can I set up a TV, such as a a Samsung UN32H5500AFXZA LED Smart TV with software version 2240, which is what I have that was previously configured in Smart Hub, in SmartThings? I’m trying to do this on a Samsung Galaxy A13 5G, with OneUI Core version 5.1, Android version 13, and I also have a Roku Premiere 3920X with software version 12.5.5, build 4174.91.
I don’t see any UN32 models listed in the supported TVs list. Not sure how old your TV is, but ST discontinued support for many models in the last couple of years. You can certainly try adding it from the mobile app and see if your TV can be discovered.
There is a community developed Edge driver that allows Roku streaming devices and TVs to be used with ST. More information here:
The H5500 was a 2014 model. Even by Samsung’s standards the models around that time were poorly supported, and third party products tended to be unable to work with them because of some encryption or something. Not only did key apps not last long, some never launched in the first place. I’ve still got one on a wall gradually turning purple but there is very little that one could call smart about it any more. I’ve never quite forgiven Samsung for it as I discovered when it was time to get a replacement.
I don’t think you’ll get much joy out of anything older than about 2022 now.
I think treating it as a dumb accessory for your Roku is likely to be your way forward.
True! I have three Samsung televisions of various ages in that range. None have been updated at all in years, although there are a number of things that just don’t work correctly–but their streaming app somehow keeps being enabled periodically after I disable it, LOL. We were just talking about a future, larger set in the future and, like you, I’ll be seriously looking at other brands when the time comes…
