Broken forum (May/June 2022)

Forum remains broken and appears to be getting worse on mobile

@andresg @nayelyz

Hi!
Can you share more details, please? Which section isn’t working properly and screenshots would be really helpful

You could be just a little more specific.

At least, big titles are legible to me.

That is the only thing I see that is a little annoying, but acceptable to me…

Screen_Recording_20220627-161625_Samsung Internet_1

At some point, it doesn’t have any spare space near the scroll bar and then it suddenly pops up and vice-versa.

In the image, I scrolled the page up a little.
The opposite happens when I scroll down.

Hi Nayelyz,
On a phone all main sections are set to the left correctly but the right is not expanded fully, when it is expanded fully to the right the contained text should auto justify to suit the sizing

The last section of the forum has the correct font but bounding boxs need expanding to the right, the rest of the forum before it broke had this font throughout

As can be seen below, this section is in need of repair in many places

Apart from the right margin wasting space, it seems OK on my mobiles. I’ve never come across the SmartLounge …

The ST forum looks fine on my Nokia, Android 11 phone.

I have SmartLounge but nothing has been posted to it in years.

Im using a Samsung S10, using Chrome or Firefox i get the same issues

Hi, @fido

We try replicating these issues on different devices but we haven’t found any device that sees the forum as you do. Also, the change that broke the forum in May/June was rollbacked, so this has to be a different issue.

How sure are you about this not happening before? As far as I am concerned, the way you see the forum now should be the same as you saw it before the May/June issue.

Confused we all are andresg !!

To start, i am 100% sure before my first post in the other thread the forum was always correct and solid

Just to be clear, you see centred main sections with no overflow and in the font which is used in the private section ?

I have no alignment issues using the same browsers for other parts of the internet, it really is just the community forum here

Like you, i am confused as to why i am seeing these oddities ?

To clarify, i only see issues on the main sections, everything else is fine

I have cleared the Chrome cache as a try anything fix, no joy, the alignment issues persist

on your phone…

have you enabled Bold text and a larger font size?

Not sure jkp, dont believe so but will check

Droping font size down one notch does oddly bring the forum font back to the same as the private section… which is better but really should not happen, sizing should not affect font type, however i still have alignment issues as they were before, plus now i cant read too easily, im not 21 with razor eye sight

Shows the fonts the same by dropping sizing one notch

Overflow remains

Maybe its a bug in the S10 O/s ?

see if there is a Bold text option in Android. disable it and test. You can change it back

Screenshot above shows Bold off Jkp…

I have switched it on off on off to see if i can dislodge the Gremlin

Tried different resolutions, downloaded and used Samsing Sans, tried oneui font… all same result, the overflow and left alignment remains

Looks like i have a strange mystery

sorry, I was unable to view the screenshots so I was going by the text. It was worth a try. hope you are able to get it figured out.

Think im getting somewhere, because @andresg reports they are unable to recreate the issue and the fact that no one else is reporting the issue it appears to be isolated to my device

I am still confused by the forum rollback and how that affected my devices display of the forum and why it has gone wonky but

By selecting the devices visibility enhancements and hitting default the overflow seems to have gone, i have never changed anything in that section before but it appears to have helped

I can now reproduce the forum font sizing issues

I can correct the issue and return the issue

I cannot give a reason why it occurs though

The first issue was overflow on one of the main sections
This was resolved by tapping the default option on visibility enhancements

The next issue was a smaller font appearing in the private section
This seems to have been resolved by playing with the font sizing option

A combination of adjusting both including screen resolution up and down does now seem to have resolved my issues

In my view there is a bug somewhere … Chrome, OneUi, Androids O/s even in the forums code but something threw my devices display out of alignment

Interesting point
The private section of the forum appears to be immune from phone font sizing on my device ?? Thats just odd

Doubtful we will ever know and as the forum is for Smartthings non of us are that interested… even me if im honest

Anyway… nothing to see here now, issue resolved, thank you @andresg, @jkp, @orangebucket , @Paul_Oliver, @w35l3y for taking the time to give your thoughts and efforts

To my shame i have used Firefox or Chrome as default browsers forever, just to see if there was any improvement with the forum i just tried Samsungs internet browser… the forum in mobile view is perfect with no issues, i can also see that the left alignment and space on the right is for a scroll tab which is not available on Chrome or Firefox, thus making the forum look set to the left and incorrect

Samsungs browser is also smoother to scroll… who knew !
