This is really an outstanding deal for an outstanding speaker. I was looking for another Play:3 and a Play:1. With this deal I went for two Play:1’s and I may even go for another one. These rarely go on sale and $50 off is very good.

I already have 6 Sonos units and they work flawlessly. Have not looked back since I moved from an AirPlay setup.

Yes. It requires a node.js server to act as the interface between the two, so not a simple integration, but it does work. See details in this thread.

Amazon is now offering the 7" Kindle for $33 new. But it will likely have a (temporarily) unrootable OS.

I’ve never had any problem. as long as I root them BEFORE I ever let them connect to internet. Open box, plug immediately into the computer to charge, as soon as it starts to boot skip the setup or put in airplane mode.

Me neither, but the new ones will have a new OS that has Alexa installed. I fear that it might not be rootable. 5.1.3.1 wasn’t for a while. I’ve been ordering them from AMZ warehouse deals for sub $30. They all have older OSs. I got one that was 5.1.2. It was a breeze to root. Another was 5.3.1. I had to downgrade it first. No big deal… . .

I have one that is still running Fire OS, but I blocked OTA updates for now.

They aren’t bad. The harware is way out of this price range, but it’s still much slower than even a Nexus 7.

I plan on getting one to have as a main controller for the automation system and video monitoring, will I need rooting for that?

If planning on using SmartTiles, which just uses the browser to open a website, NO. Video monitoring would depend on your cameras or how you plan on monitoring them.
You can sideload MOST Android apps onto any Fire tablet through 1Market without rooting it.

Even the ST app has to be sideloaded, since ST app is NOT certified for Fire devices, so is NOT available from Amazon Appstore. Or wasn’t as of a couple months ago, I doubt it has changed.

Rooting comes in when you want to install Tasker, or control the camera to use it to turn the tablet on as you approach it . I rooted mine, and still just leave them on & open to SmartTiles all the time.

You can beat the $33 price if you haven’t made a voice purchase through Alexa today. There is a $10 GC with your first Alexa deal purchase this weekend. So it would end up being $23.

Appreciate the list though as a full disclaimer to everyone, they are affiliate links, which means he earns commission from you if you purchase something through these links.

Not saying it’s a bad thing and you’ve gone to the effort of consolidating links, I’m just personally on the side of fully disclaiming everything.

I’ve never found it to be a big deal. If someone gives you a tip that save you money what does it matter if they don’t disclose that they get a kickback… Just abut every ad we click on someone is getting a kickback. Lucky them; no harm no foul right?

You’re totally right @Benji and my intention was just as @tommyincville wrote. Just took the time to compile a list for ya’ll and I get a couple bucks to help me toward my christmas shopping

Time = money Always happy to see “The Little Guy” make a buck. Especially when it doesn’t come out of my pocket.

As an eBay affiliate (years ago when they were giving money away) I made enough to pave both driveways. A new roof and a paint job. Man I do miss that gravy :frowning:

Hey thanks for taking the time. At first I didn’t really like @Benji post just because you took the time to compile. BUT there is a positive twist to what he said. In that, if you had disclosed, people may have helped you out because you helped them!

Serious question, what was there to ‘dislike’?

How can you tell you’re getting the credit?
I just researched it. Turns out that you need to do this on Amazon prime using a MasterCard. I have neither.

lol I must have missed that part. oh well $40 is still a good deal

Where do you read that you have to use a MasterCard ??? It is a GC credit posted to your Amazon Prime account.
