Way back this process of locking/unlocking on departure/arrival was so intuitive and extremely easy to setup I wonder why they would ever change something that worked very well. So before, you used to actually go into the device (aka the door lock) and add actions from there so that “when someone arrives, regardless if someone is already home, then unlock the door, then lock it after 5 minutes” bam, nothing more to it. If someone leaves then lock the door. It was that easy.
What does it appear we have now from reading the posts above? Let’s see. I have to unfortunately create a new routine who’s sole purpose is to simply unlock a door when someone arrives? After looking into routines for when someone leaves it states “Everyone leaves” so interesting, it turns out then I have to create a routine per every family member that will be leaving to ensure that when someone leaves (not everyone leaving) the door will lock behind them? Why in the world would they make it when “everyone leaves” and not just one person leaving. When my wife leaves for work and I’m still home, why would I want the door to remain unlocked? No I want the door to lock back up! I’m hoping this is just horrible labeling on their part and it actually means if anyone leaves it will lock the door.
Ultimately what it sounds like I will end up with is several garbage routines that will over clutter my existing major routines that are used for triggering whole home automation such as setting the house for bedtime or setting it up for home day or home night or even away day or away night which controls all the lights/locks/switches/etc. So now my routines go from very organized and for a specific purpose to a mess with some used for one sole purpose.
Someone please tell me what I’m missing here and this can’t be the only path forward which will over clutter my routines for something so easy? I already checked the SmartApps and couldn’t find one for unlocking/locking based on arrival/departure.
