Any bulbs work with ST without extra bridge?

Ive got some working bulbs linked via Alexa and Virtual locks etc, but is there any that just work with ST?
I have the Tapo bridge but the bulbs they sell don’t use the bridge so couldn’t see them in my ST area.

Endless options if you have a SmartThings hub.

The Tapo hub (Matter bridge) only bridges these devices:

The only Tapo bulb that can be directly connected to the ST hub is the L535E.

I do, but so far I’ve only managed to buy bulbs that don’t work with it. What’s the best option?

Nanoleaf Essentials Matter over Thread bulbs (and strips).

Are you looking for Matter bulbs specifically? There are plenty of Zigbee bulbs that work well directly on an ST hub, the most obvious being Philips Hue.

I’m after anything that works with ST without needing another bridge. I got some Hue bulbs but when I tried to add them to ST it was just asking to be linked to the bridge, unkess I did something wrong?
Id like to turn my lights off with out the need for a bunch of Virtual locks basically :slight_smile:

Can’t go wrong with the Nanoleaf M/T:

Review for the Nanoleaf Essentials Smart Bulb:

:star::star::star::star::star:

“The Illuminati Wish They Had This Kind of Power!”

Let me start by saying that the Nanoleaf Essentials smart bulb isn’t just a light bulb—it’s a divine orb of omnipotence disguised as household lighting. I’m fairly certain that if you gaze at it long enough, you’ll unlock the secrets of the universe…

Installation was so easy, I felt like a tech genius. "Oh, I just set up a whole light system using my phone,” I casually told my friends, as if I wasn’t following the step-by-step instructions with the intensity of someone trying to defuse a bomb. But once it was set up? Oh, baby, let me tell you—it felt like I had tamed the sun.

The Nanoleaf Essentials doesn’t just turn on, oh no. It enters the room. When I say, “Alexa, turn on the lights,” this thing flicks on with the energy of a Broadway diva making her grand entrance. The colors? They’re so vibrant, I’m convinced it’s pulling directly from the rainbow supply. I set it to “relax mode,” and I became so relaxed I nearly fell into a trance and signed up for a meditation retreat.

Brightness? At full blast, this thing will make your living room feel like you’re orbiting the sun. I’m talking retina-searing luminescence that makes you feel like you could see into other dimensions. My neighbor saw the glow through my windows and thought I was hosting a rave—he showed up with glow sticks. (Thanks, Nanoleaf, for the awkward 3 AM conversation.)

But let’s talk about the mood lighting. When I dimmed it down to that perfect “chill evening” level, it transformed my living room into a cozy cave where Netflix binge-watching feels like a sacred ritual. Switch it to “party mode” and suddenly I’m in a nightclub. I threw a party just to show off my bulb. No one cared about the drinks, the snacks, or even the music—they just stood there in awe of my lighting choices. One guy even proposed to his girlfriend because “the ambiance was right.”

Verdict? This is more than a lightbulb. It’s a lifestyle. It’s the reason I wake up every day with a sense of purpose. Honestly, I’m one firmware update away from declaring it sentient and asking for its advice on major life decisions.

5 out of 5 stars. It lit up my life, literally and metaphorically.

I’ve never owned a Hue hub, my bulbs have always been directly on main system Zigbee hubs - an Amazon Echo at first, then soon on a SmartThings V3 hub.

Adding the Hue bulbs to the ST hub didn’t require any tricks whatsoever either. Reset the bulbs (using the documented on-off-on-off… sequence), let ST scan for new devices, done.

I own nothing but those E27 dimmables, so if you have other Hue stuff, your mileage may vary.

Most Zigbee bulbs can be paired directly with a SmartThings hub.
I am in the UK and I have a V2 hub with a large number of Ikea Tradfri bulbs directly connected. I also have a Sengled and multiple Hue bulbs connected.
Most of my Ikea Tradfri bulbs are warm white, but I also have a number of white spectrum.
I had some difficulty pairing Ikea Tradfri bulbs. I usually paired them within 6" of my hub and then relocated them to their required fittings.
This included GU10 bulbs; I made a special cable to pair these before putting them in ceiling fittings.
Hope this helps.

Hi @David_McNae ,
What is the exact model of Sengled bulb that you have? Is it clearly marked ‘Zigbee’?
What SmartThings hub do you have?
Zigbee and Z-Wave devices will only work with SmartThings if you have a SmartThings hub (2015 V2 hub, as I have, 2018 SmartThings V3 hub, or Acotec hub, [or SmartThings Station in the US for Zigbee only]).
If you have a Zigbee Sengled bulb, and one of the compatible hubs, what steps are you taking to pair the bulb to the hub?

@David_McNae

Wiz bulbs using Matter (or Cloud to Cloud) connection

I just remembered I also have a handful of Paulmann E27 filament Zigbee bulbs on ST. They are quite nice, in that they have tunable white, and they’re only five euros.

Hmm maybe they are not Singled These are the bulbs I cant see any ref to singled so not sure why I thought they were?

I have a V2

Sounds good, will have a look for these as well!

OK, these are WiFi and (I think) Bluetooth.
I have no experience of using WiFi bulbs with SmartThings.
I restrict myself to Zigbee and Z-Wave to be safe.
I presume you added the bulbs to your home WiFi?
If so, SmartThings may still find them (others may advise);
if they are not on your WiFi, there is no hope.

Yes, I remembered now, it was a singled temp gauge I bought.
I’ll have a look at some zigbee lights and go from there. Thanks for your advice.
