Amazon Echo soon will control thermostats natively

You da man! Thanks :).
Now back to that 51 degrees… ;-). Anyone else had that?

@eefrat2, thanks, but no worries. I have no idea how 74 was phonetically translated to 51, unless you have a Greek accent. You should hear my mom and Alexa…

That’s why I said Echo repeated it… it repeated “74” so I know my command was received correctly. It just set the Nest to 51…

So unfortunately I live in an area in Georgia where the temperature can sway from the 40s in the morning and in the afternoon swing all the way up in to the 70s and 80s. Normally it only happens in the spring and fall, but it can happen in the winter as well. Anyway, both my nests are on Heat/Cool mode and when I tell Alexa to set it to 72, it will set both temperatures to 72. I can see in the Nest device type (the official/unofficial one) that there is a heat setpoint and a cool setpoint. I would think that it wouldn’t be too hard to handle, for instance, saying Alexa, set the heat to 68, and it only changes the heat setpoint.

Unfortunately, Amazon’s ConnectedHome API does not allow mode changes at the moment.

So to quote Loyd Christmas, “You’re telling me there’s a chance!”

Have you checked Alexa Helper? I can control my Nest through a “dimmer” switch, may be able to do what you want.

The Nest is suppose to be supported on Alexa “in the next few weeks”

Thank you for your suggestion, and yeah I have gotten a ton of suggestions to use Alexa Helper and after looking at it, I am not so keen on loading yet another thing that I am going to have to update and keep tabs on to make sure that its working correctly. I would prefer the official solution but it looks like its not going to support everything right away. I have a feeling that this was a push since ecobee beat everyone to the punch with integration. Its not a huge deal, but was just wondering…

I agree on trying to keep the ‘required’ ones installed. I recently moved to git integration on all my SmartApps and device handlers. Makes it much easier to update, and when you log into the IDE the ones that need updating turn purple.

Thanks for recommending Alexa Helper!
