The only setup problem I have with it is that it won’t recognize my Z wave devices😉
It’s not available on samsung.com in the UK, and the mobile Samsung Shop app doesn’t even have a section for SmartThings.
We do however get the opportunity to be notified when we can buy the older model for only 41% more (not including delivery) than it it costs in stock on Amazon with delivery on Friday.
I expect Samsung UK are too busy selling TVs and phones.
Well that one flew over your head
.
Samsung DE doesn’t even really know what a hub is or what it’s good for. SmartThings is this app that allows you to remotely control household appliances.
Send it back to product management - tell them to look at the installed base.
Hell, charge us for zwave capability now that you have us captive.
Or, just kill our “future-proof” Utility
Your choice shows your character and business sense
Over 90% of the installed base doesn’t have a hub of any kind unless one came inside their Samsung television or appliance.
Samsung already made this business decision when they released the smartthings station about two years ago with no zwave radio, and it pretty quickly became their best selling hub ever.
almost everybody in this particular forum does have a hub. But we are a small minority of a small minority of their total customer base. So the argument would need to be made on a different basis. ![]()
For over a decade, I have appreciated your perspective, JD - still stings.
A “future-proof” platform they said and now almost all the switches in my walls will not be usable sometime soon.
Just built this house 5 years ago — after the first 7 years and 2 houses, I got this one right the first time, so I never come here anymore - I just happened to see a news article about it.
Never saw an announcement from Samsung.
I worked in software, tech sales, sales, leadership, and product management - always customer-facing, and we never blindsided or abandoned customers like this. Always had a path forward even if it was an uncomfortable one. I bet I need a new hub before I need new switches and there goes the bulk of the value in my system. They are still stupid bastards to me. I would gladly pay for zwave in my SmartThings hub.
100%. They need the feedback and they need to know that they have a lot of users that would buy if z-wave was an option. you got a usb-a port…. use it! z-wave stick is an option, aeotec makes and sells them… like come on!
After some recent issues with mattter and zigbee devices going offline for days in ST, I bought a HA Green hub and zigbee and zwave adapters. Got most of my 100+ devices migrated in a day and most of my routines setup the following day. Dashboards and advanced routines working within the week. It was surpisingly mostly painless and easy! System responsiveness is great and every cloud integration I had is now local.
I also need Z-Wave in the Hub. So I don’t buy the nee hub. Hope there will be a solution in the future. In thr moment I stay with my two old hubs. Z-Wave was one of the main reasons for me to buy smartthings. Without that , there is no need to stay with Smartthings. Maybe I must think about an other system in future
Not for me… for the very same reason as all the other posters. No z-wave ≈ no interest = no purchase.
Anyone try Zwave usb stick yet?
I’ve used one from time to time over the years, but it’s no different than using any other Z wave hub: you’d still have to figure out a way to bring the devices into SmartThings. ![]()
(If you’re asking if you can just stick a Z wave USB stick into the new hub and run it that way, you cannot.)
May I know if and when will it be available in China mainland market? Since I just bought one US model from Amazon and unfortunately smartthings app reports it is not supported in China.
Yea, still waiting for zwave usb support before I buy
Are there any news to that topic ? Because I think that will never happen
if anyone is looking for a V2 hub or Aeotec V3 hub backups to ensure you have a replacement with zwave in case of a failure, I have 1 of each for sale.
I have about 50 zwave devices in my home. I like the robust mesh technology, not depending on Wi-Fi - which gets cluttered given neighbors, etc., and security.
Omitting Zwave as a physical/data-link option is disappointing and caused me to migrate my home to Hubitat. It has much more robust Zwave support, offering up-to-date drivers, more flexible rule construction and ability to fully back up - including to gracefully recover from a failed hub without having to re-register all Zwave devices. It also offers ‘command retry’ for any critical devices that may occasionally not get a command. (i.e. will verify command was executed and retry up to 5 times if not.)
While Samsung is a bit ‘graceful’ and built more for end-useres, Hubitat takes more technical knowledge, but not so much that you have to be totally down-in-the-weeds to use it.
I also use Envisalink and found Hubitat supports an Envisalink driver. While the Samsung community support driver is a bit more sophisticated, doing better at supporting multiple zones, there are work-around for being easily able to support the Envisalink driver that Hubitat uses.
The reason that you set up multiple zones is that when an alarm system is ‘armed’ it ceases to monitor non-alarming sensors. So if you arm your system and have first floor alarm sensors but use the sensors on the 2nd floor for presence and control, the second floor sensors stop reporting if they are in an armed zone until the system is disarmed. The solution is to put these in a separate alarm partition that is ‘never armed’ and you can use them all the time to sense motion, etc. Hubitat’s driver reports every x seconds on zone 1 then zone 2, then zone 1, etc. Unfortunatly this causes a zone that may be reporting motion to report “active’“ in zone 1 but then “inactive” in zone 2. The key is to manage the condition by saying “inactive for x” seconds that spans the 2 reporting periods. If it’s not, then it’s been ‘activated’ and you can create your rule from there.
The above was the only real issue that I had with the migration.
Now I have something that supports current Zwave, integration with Envisalink and the system functioning (actually a bit better) than with Samsung.
As soon as I figure out how it will work with my locks at a rental property, I’ll be 100% gone from Smartthings and won’t look back until they get full Zwave support again.
Are you sure that hub recovery requires you to unregister and reregister Z-Wave devices?
While I have never had a hub fail, I have not read anything about this limitation on this forum.
I could be wrong.
