Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 - Coming Soon to Samsung.com

Well, Echos can connect to matter devices so… bu bye Samsung. I have samsung TVs too but I just have Alexa control it. And since they are wifi, I dont need smartthings. Amazon can do the routines and scenes just as well as the new smartthings. We will just cut out the middle man. I doubt those who have a few Samsung appliances will bother with the app at all.

It depends on your needs. But in my opinion there’s a huge gap in the functionality of smartthings routines versus alexa routines.
For example, you can’t trigger an amazon routine based on the state of a light, eg if the lights are off do this. There are many other differences.

So I guess they don’t want to have Z-wave cause it’s about 25 cents of licensing fees for it and that’ll mean a few less vacations over time for the top managers at these companies?

All my z-wave stuff are my light switches, which are the hardest things to replace of them all. And worst part is all Matter options that are under $40 each are made by Tp-link which are known CCP spyware devices

Neither proven or known… be accurate in your scaremongering

Maybe, but I think it’s more likely they just don’t want the additional customer service costs of supporting yet another protocol, particularly one which is region specific.

my guess is that as soon as somebody comes up with a matter over Z wave bridge, like the ones currently available for Zigbee, Samsung will be happy to see those users come back to smartthings again. They just don’t want to have to support zwave within their own ecosystem for their newest hubs.

just to follow-up where I posted my new Aeotec V4 hub’s firmware was not updating. ST has resolved the issue.

Awesome.

Are you going to do a hub replace? Took about a minute here and everything was up and running in about five minutes.

Yes… my weekend project.

Please support Z-Wave. The end.

Been HA capable of connecting with zwave devices and bring them to other platforms like Samsung via matter, can’t we call that setup a zwave matter bridge??

Not technically the same thing, although it can produce a similar outcome.

A “matter bridge” is a specific device class under the independent third-party matter specification, and there are a lot of technical rules around that which won’t apply when you are using some other method of bridging.

There were lots of bridges of various kinds before matter was ever developed. Even the original Hue bridge was a Zigbee to Wi-Fi bridge, and a very useful one.

So yes, there are multiple ways to bridge zwave from a different platform into smartthings. (People also do it with hubitat). But that doesn’t make it a “matter bridge.”

I just read that z-wave will not be supported in the new hub. I am livid. But, I hope it is not true.
I have been using Smartthings since 2013.
In this house I have 48 zwave devices that are part of my house because of Smarthings
I built this house 5 years ago - thousands of dollars in the skeleton of this house because Smartthings supported it.

We and they know hubs die and get superseded. The next Gen Hub MUST support our investments.

If true, this is a complete betrayal of Smarthings’ customers.

I know I’ll be buying a new Hub - I’d like it to be the next or after Smartthings Hub.

But, if this is true, I’ll never buy another Samsung product.

Word up :up_down_arrow:

i’ve posted this in another thread, but think is valid to include in here too:

Thanks for your question - local-first is referring to more device communication and automations that run directly on the hub instead of relying on the cloud. With the goal to improve speed and reliability, especially for automations.

Right now, it works the same way as our other hubs like you said when it comes to app control — you’ll still need a cloud connection to control devices from the SmartThings app. Local processing mainly applies to how the hub handles automations and device interactions behind the scenes, not direct app commands.

Thank you for your question on that one. The USB-A port doesn’t have any user function yet. But if that changes, we’ll be sure to update. We will adjust the post too to make that a bit clearer with the current status of the USB-A port.

My 2 cents, I’d sign up in a heartbeat (and probably recommend it to our 500,000+ followers across social media) if it would support a Z-Wave dongle via USB. That’s not hard to do, z-wave stack is already built into the firmware. It certainly could be an all in 1 hub; there are many users who still use Z-Wave devices and many manufacturers (including Aeotec) who are still releasing Z-Wave devices.

Agree. Same here.

Hey everyone; we wanted to share that the Hub is available for purchase on Samsung.com.

It’s been off to great start so far so we really appreciate the support!

Thank you also for all the feedback — it’s been super helpful. Based on your input, we’ve already been able to solve some of the setup issues that came up, and we’ll continue making improvements to enhance the overall experience.
