glad i asked. Thanks
I don’t know if this is required but I created a Samsung Account when I setup the hub. It might be because you are using a SmartThings account with the hub.
For the ADT panel, could you bypass motion sensors or other open window to arm it like a normal alarm does? I know this sounds like a silly question. Cause I want to bypass motion sensor at night if I go to sleep, but keep the doors and certain windows armed. In the summer, I might have a portable AC that makes certain window opened.
Yes (to the best of my knowledge).
The ADT Panel gives an information screen on open contacts at attempt to Arm and offers bypass options. SmartThings also has added (undocumented) Capability / Attributes for bypass handling.
I currently do not own any ST hubs or smart sensors. I pay $50 monthly for wired w/ cell monitoring system from gaurdian security, they use alarm.com app for remote arming & even have geofence reminders when both my wife & I drive away from house & alarm not set.
I want to cancel $50 month & go for something less expensive, so ADT/ST hub peaks my interest! I also want to get into full automation in my home.
During reading all these post I saw someone posted a link about “konnected” being able to use my old wired system & link it to a ST v2 Hub… that’s great, since all my windows/door sensors, motions, & glassbreaks would show up as smart devices in ST! (Am I Right?)…
-
If I went “konnected” route, I would lose central monitoring option right? But keep all my wired sensors! Nice! Would there be a way to at least maintain mobile alerts via geofence? Konnected website doesn’t mention.
-
If I went with ADT/ST hub, would I have geofence mobile alerts to remind me to arm with both active/paid monitoring & self monitoring?
Option 1 - will be much cheaper, since I’m only buying a ST v2 Hub & the Konnected module.
Option 2 - will be more expensive, ($550 Best Buy- but they give you a $150 BB gift card), since I’m buying ADT/ST Hub & 6 more adt sensors.
If I can get those questions above answered, this would help me understand & choose wisely.
No, the new dual logo sensors use a completely different frequency and the only matching radio for that frequency is in the new panel device. You cannot use them with the other hubs.
- You can still have central monitoring with the regular v2 hub through Scout.
- Someone with the ADT system correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think you can use mobile presence to arm and disarm the system. It doesn’t show up in the routines to do this. You have to use the.panel.
Scout’s central monitoring is for intrusion only. ADT also offers fire monitoring.
Wow ADT/ST doesn’t offer mobile arming/disarming! That is ridiculous. Does ST/Scout offer that? & lastly, would using Konnect/ST to simply use my existing hardwired system allow for mobile arming/disarming via geofence?
Many security systems do not allow your presence on the phone to arm/disarm a security system because they just don’t consider it reliable enough. That’s not uncommon. They particularly don’t like the idea that if somebody steals your phone and goes to your house the security system would disarm, But there are concerns about automatic arming as well.
You could set up a reminder based on Geopresence to remind you to arm it through the mobile app. Or you can use their key fob. Or of course the panel as you go out the door. But they don’t like automatic arming/disarming.
I currently use an entirely different security system and we use a reminder and it works fine for us. But different people have different preferences in this regard.
Scout jsut sits on top of the Standard Smart Home Monitor, so anything you can do with SHM you can do with Scout. One more thing to think about with Konnected is it will all be cloud based. Anyway, kind of getting off topic of this thread. may want to start a separate one in the projects section.
Support has added additional articles about the new ADT system to the official supportbase:
Sorry for confusion, I don’t want Automatic arming,… I just want a pop up reminder (if I drive 1 mile away from home) on my phone saying “Your alarm was not armed, do you want to arm now? Click yes” (based on only if both my wife & I have left, so if she leaves & I stay home, arm reminder will not be sent, until I also leave).
So it’s confirmed that ADT/ST using the app will allow this function?
My current iOS app notification alarm options:
SmartThings doesn’t allow interactive notifications at all.
Ouchy, will the supplied keyfob work from long distance?
I’m sick of paying $50 monthly when the only part I want to retain is the alarm.com app’s arming options over the Internet. ADT non-smart system also has a similar app that allows this basic function.
I’m really trying to want this ADT/ST, Long as I can recieve a reminder alert on phone, then open the ST app & arm from the app miles away from home. I’ll be ok with that.
So basically the diff is the ‘arming reminder alert notification’ from ADT/ST app won’t have a button to arm, I would have to then open the app & tap “arm”… am I following this correct?
so we can’t arm/disarm with the app? we can only do that with the panel ?
No. You can arm and disarm with the app.
Regarding the range of the Key Fob, it works on the 900 MHz band so about the range of an older cordless phone.
An alternative option to the Konnected module is the EnvisaLink 4 module for DSC and Honeywell/Ademco panels. I’ve purchased one but haven’t yet configured it. I don’t believe it relies on the cloud (unless you use their mobile app for remote arm/disarm and alerts). There’s a thread here somewhere with discussion, it appears to work well.
you can manually from the app. You can’t based on phone location.
You can probably setup a reminder in WebCore to remind you if the ADT side isn’t armed and your phone leaves the geofence.
Yes, as far as the official features.
If you have an android phone, you might be able to create an interactive notification using Tasker, but someone more familiar with android would have to answer that.
