I’m trying to add mtter devices to a smartthings wifi hub (which doesn’t have matter technology built in). Does anyone know if this is possible using another controller such as the Amazon echo show?
Model of your hub? What brand/model devices are you attempting to add?
You can add Matter devices to another controller like Echo Show, Echo Dot, etc, but that won’t bring them into the ST ecosystem. Currently, neither of the Wi-Fi hubs (Connect or Plume) supports Matter and are unlikely to in the future. You will need a standalone hub that supports Matter or one of the TVs or appliances that support Matter to use them in the ST ecosystem.
I have the smartthings wifi hub that only supports zibee an Zwave. I also have an echo dot gen 3 that supports matter. I was able to add the device to Alexa with the echo dot but when I tried to add it to smartthings it told me This;
The message said “Could not add device”. “Your hub does not support this device”
Ok. Thank for your help
Each Matter controller only works with its own platform. So an echo matter controller only lets you see matter devices in the Alexa app. An apple HomePod mini only let you see matter devices in the Apple home app. Etc… You can add a matter device to multiple platforms, but you have to add it to each platform using that platform’s matter controller.
In order to see matter devices in the SmartThings app, you have to have a SmartThings matter controller, like the V2 hub, V3 hub, station, or some of the ones built into the Samsung smart televisions.
