*Disclaimer: I am still in “new car” mode as I missed the Kickstarter.
Such negativity, but I think it’s somewhat unwarranted.
Yes, we are “pre-sales”, and yes we are not investors. But have you seen the “Office Hours”? Weekly, they reach out to the community and talk about how things are going. Tell me ANOTHER Kickstarter that has done this???
They have to build a business AND churn out devices AND make an API AND make a IDE AND cover support AND keep testing AND build two apps AND… You get my point. There’s probably going to be a Office Hours today around 4pm EST, I’d love to see you there.
I think they are well ahead of other Kickstarters.
(Perhaps there is some big $$ to be made in building a bridge to SmartThings… but not on top of THAT controller.)
Yes, you can go with the NON-Zigbee version. As started earlier, their Zigbee controller only talks to CERTAIN/APPROVED devices. You should probably get the NON-Zigbee version and install a Z-Wave card.
Negative Nate is probably right, the best way to do bridge right now, would be an Arduino shield + Insteon PLM. I’ll ship you a PLM, you release the code open source.

I was at the office hours today.
And I hangout pretty frequently in the IRC channel #smartthings
Nice to meet you!
(And, perhaps @solardave1 will take you up on the offer of the Insteon PLM ; I only have X10 devices, and very few of those; but still exploring).
I e got a box full of Insteon PLM’s - how do you thing I control x-10 and Insteon through Vera?

At Office Hours today, bad news: LAN / direct IP connectivity is still going to be a while. Write an email to build@smartthings.com or your fave contact.

Hey Guys, i’m very interested in an insteon bridge myself. I already have fan controllers/keypads/dimmers/motion sensors all over my house. I have been reverse engineering insteon for a little while now and have wanted to make a z-wave bridge since most of the new hubs seem to support z-wave. Really, i’ve been looking at making a HTTP bridge because i think that’s where everything is going.
As far as I know you can actually make insteon products but you have to pay something like $100-200 for their development program. For example, the new revolv (revolve.com) is supposed to have built in insteon support because they’ll have the insteon wireless ship built into it.
I’m with you too that i wish we had a better idea on the road map ST is planning. Until i do i don’t want to spend much effort towards anything ST specific. I just received my ST and it is a great device but it is definitely missing some key functions/features to really make it a complete smart home hub.

SmartThings will be an interesting place to do some proof-of-concept / prototyping of bridging, since the capabilities of the ThingShield for Arduino look promising (and… well…, LAN IP will be coming, eventually, if not as soon as we hoped). I’m dabbling in this with ST’s own Danny Kleinman (@megapixel).
Meanwhile, WigWag campaign is coming to a successful close soon on Kickstarter, and they are ambitiously (audaciously?) promoting multi-protocol (physical layer) support in their “Relay” (hub), including RS-232 (useful for Insteon and X10 powerline controllers) and USB dongles for ZigBee, Z-Wave, and Bluetooth; (hmmm… wonder if X10’s USB powerline controller will be compatible).
Yeah i’m following wigwag and revolv closely. I like that wigwag can work without an internet connection. that is huge plus to me. I made a project page for the insteon bridge idea. Depending on interest i’ll put some efforts towards that. Sooner ST gets local IP the better!

I already have an X10 Project page… I recommend using and expanding it, though I’m not sure how to add administrators… Such weak forum software here.
Maybe we should all use github…
I hadn’t heard of Revolv… Though I am a NinjaBlock!
