I have a drinking problem, so how many beers do you have? Rule Machine has been running just fine for me, including after moving everything to a new v2 hub.

Well, you’re right on this one! ST can change names of capabilities and would make an app stop working. BUT no one stops you from updating your code to make it work again. And the community is always here to help you out if you get stuck. So is still non-sense. And sorry if I offended you, but having a txt file of my favorite unaltered peice of code save my butt many times…

Send me your email so I can send you some beer $$$

This 1,000 times over. The circle of trust has been broken and SmartThings needs to do A LOT to repair it. And I do mean A LOT.

Not at all!

My point was one of…I spend a lot of money…work hard to have my home…as do much of us I presume…yet, I sometimes put everlasting faith where it’s not everlasting lol.

Don’t take me so literally…my apologies there. I spend all day being literal and hate it in my spare time.

Overall, I’ve just seen so many problems due to ST back end / architecture changes and I don’t have time to keep up with code alterations.

That was my point with original Rule Machine code, but maybe that was a bad example according to Mike?..anyway, the point was I’ve seen a few apps go inoperable for the aforementioned reasons.

Not enough to share unless I like you a lot…I have a trust problem lol

Help me out here…between all the android issues and crashes…you’re telling me somehow that’s now resolved and I can pull my backup of the 1st Rule Machine and it will run without a hitch?

Guess I’m a monkey’s uncle with less beer and trust issues.

P.S. You don’t have a drinking problem until you take community profile pictures with them like a professional

Oy. This truly is getting sad.

I sorta get the OP’s point… but then there are a lot of folks here who clearly have put a lot of work into a lot of apps, only to see ST not handling the problems that are making those apps fail. Is ST not caring? That’s bad. Are they unable to address it? That’s just as bad. Either way I can’t blame some of these developers for their decision, in the face of relentless issues, to walk away ( at least temporarily).

ST management needs to look at this carefully, and realize this is a watershed moment. If I were them I would temporarily suspend ALL additions, whether they be devices or apps, for a couple months. Take that time to figure out and solve the current problems, before allowing new integrations. Because for this to keep going could spell disaster for this platform.

True, but most of those have positive revenue streams and an army of developers. If a developer quits, another will fill the ranks.

When its a small number of developers if they quit often the project dies.

I miss the OP’s point.

The Dev’s gave lots of people free code.

All the people that downloaded the free code still have it and can use it. Assuming it originally worked, If it continues to work or not is ALL on ST at this point

The dev’s stopped handing it out for free (who cares what the reason- but seems pretty valid- basically ST broke the piss out of it- even the Big Kahuna says as much above- my own install is a giant mess- i get crazy actions happening on their own)

So sorry if you missed the free handout.

Can I send my kids to bang on my neighbors door on Nov 1 and demand free candy becasue the neighbors were kind enough to hand out free stuff the night before? After all it’s only the kids, and the dentist, that suffer…

PS- same thing happens on the other platforms when they screw up. I had a lovely app on my vera’s that i enjoyed. They broke crap and provided crappy support and communication and that dev bailed too. I was bummed when i wiped the box and discovered i didn’t back it up. But it was my fault and i didn’t blame the dev for no more free candy.

SmartTiles would love to have a “positive revenue stream”, but when I pasted a link to our donations page here, my post got marked as “spam”. (Even though it was in perfect context as a response to your quote above!).

So damned if you do, damned if you don’t…

I think I’ll “withdraw” SmartTiles tonight… Oh, that might be a good idea, actually; the publicity from “Ms. Smith” would really drive up our exposure.

Some very valid points and questions for sure.

Honest question because I’m having difficulty keeping track of names/forum names here and on the slack channel but are you part of the SmartThingsDev slack channel and if not, would you like to be?

Yes I am but I find slack very disorganized/free flow (or I just don’t know how to use it), so I just stay with the forum where’s a little more structured.

I hear ya, perhaps use it to direct message some of the ST team there if there is something you want to discuss?

If nothing is happening the conversation usually just free flows as you say in the ‘lounge’ but usually if someone pipes up with a serious question everyone is usually very good at stopping and letting that conversation flow. Alternatively the other ‘rooms’ tend to be all serious if you are able to categorise a question into the room.

Is there something else / any suggestions that could help?

Ha! Sorry for the late reply.

The Android issues I can live with for the time being. It’s been much worse in the past, but at this point of the app’s lifecycle t’s still very unacceptable that more bugs get introduced than fixed. I’m definitely not saying all that has been resolved. Far from it actually. I bet if the app was more stable I could have cut out a ton of time when I moved 250 devices to a new hub just recently.

My point is that I have what ever version Bruce left us with, and the rules I have set up are working for me.

It didn’t? Sorry. I had to.

I’ve not yet moved to Smarttiles. If I do, I’ll do just as I do with any app developer… just as I updated my AutoApps to the paid versions even though the free ones were working, I’ll make a donation in your direction. Labor of love remains nonetheless labor, and deserves adequate compensation.

Whew, just finished this thread. My favorite part about this is that I’m pretty sure the RM users were thought of a lot in his decision. From what I’ve read, it was badly broken due to the ST platform issues, so why would you want a broken app anyway? He did us all a favor. I know I don’t need a new ST challenge to deal with. I’m still struggling to get a Smart Outlet to work when I need it to…

Actually, it’s just the opposite. The app, even with the meltdown allowed for a lot of work around of the ST issues.

The real problem came when the state issue started happening.

Even before the new scheduler, RM was more reliable than any thing I found.

Not being a cheerleader, just stating the truth.

It’s a huge step backwards for the ideas of this forum and ST.

I have tremendous trouble swallowing the idea that this huge silent mass of non-power users who aren’t on the forums are actually happy with their ST installs.

More likely they’re still plugged in, barely used if at all, and the users are mystified by why that light keeps turning on at the wrong time.
