Im planning on having AC installed and this one was one of the few that is available (byvthe installer, high efficiency, multisplit).
However reading the limited information i ca find, there is no mention of local access.
I would like to integrate it to HA (to automate with heating/ventilation).
But i absolutely do not want to connect and expose it all to the internet and potentially lise all control when their service stops/changes etc, leaving me with a dumb wallbrick.
And the security issues with exposing HA to the internet. My HA is on a entirely isolated local network.
I read that in recent years there has been some “Edge drivers” - but how do i find which devices support it?
Or is this AC a waste of money locking me into cloud ecosystem?
At the time of this posting all Samsung smart devices including their app and their home automation hubs, as well as their appliances and air conditioners, do require access to the SmartThings cloud via Internet for the Smart features.
That may change eventually for the devices which are individually Matter-certified, but so far none of the Samsung air conditioners are. and there’s no announced timeline for when they will be.
add on: Thus Home Assistant would require internet access to connect to the ST API to access Samsung Appliances and Air Conditioners (again at this time)
If it’s not too late keep away from Samsung ACs. Some functionality cannot be controlled properly via the API.
When I installed the AC I had the choice between Samsung and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. As I found out later there was a local API for the latter. Unfortunately I was mislead by the windfree mode which is rather useless.
