What is the best controller / devicetype/ app to control a electric water heater.
Mine is wired directly to breaker in panel currently.

I would like to be able to schedule or turn off while on vacation or traveling.

I use the Elk Relay and plug it into a SmartOutlet in my vacation home, works great.

That’s a neat pre-built device. I built something similar years ago when I had access to a large manufacturing plant’s supply of parts.

The aeotec high load device is the appropriate choice.

I used this: http://smartenit.com/product/zbmlc30/ and when I leave the house it turns off and turns back on when I get home (through some routines)

I know this is an old post, but going to throw my two cents in now that I have my water heater automated. I too use http://smartenit.com/product/zbmlc30/ and it works perfect. I picked it up off of eBay for $40.

To wire it into a 110V heater, it is black to black from fuse panel; red to black to the heater; and both white and brown together.
