Thanks for proving me wrong @blake.arnold . I stand corrected and apologize.
I read today about the partnership between smartthings and Google, with integration between smartthings and Google nest/home slated for Jan.
I really hope the device filtering issue gets sorted out before then, both on the Google and smartthings side. Itâs going to be a real pain in the butt having all my devices listed in both apps.
The integration is a very positive news though though.
Iâm really hoping smartthings will be able to see my Chromecast audios so I can bring them into various automations (I donât know if theyâre technically part of the ânestâ ecosystem as theyve gone EOL. End ramble)
With the âalternate hubâ I can set any of my connected devices to identify in any way I want with Google. What is different with ST integration that prevents this?
I avoid google at all cost & always hoped samsung would go with tizen for their phones. With that being said this announcement does.nothing for me & samsung should work on fixing everything that is.not working before looking to integrate with nest products.
I donât have the time, money or inclination to get involved with hubitat or any other alternatives, especially when generally smartthings has been and continues to be a stable and effective system for my own home (I feel like Iâm in the minority when I say that here!)
The device filtering with Google is really a minor snag for me and Iâm happy to wait for a fix or work around it but I can see how it could be a showstopper for some. Itâs good to know there are alternatives systems out there for people who have been let down by smartthings.
All of my stuff works . Hub v3 only zwave and 2 samsung tvs and several google speakers. I have 58 z-wave devices. The app and hub became a lot more reliable for me when the last updates came out.
I like the turn key option smartthings provides, but I can see where a power user/coder could want soo much more from it.
Iâm willing to wait for what samsung does next. This is going to be the future of household normalcy.
@blake.arnold I just want to say that this lack of filter did, specifically, drive me to get an alternate Hub. I am slowly porting it over and may use SmartThings for some cloud based integrations, but it was incredibly disheartening that SmartThings couldnât allow this basic device filtering. It was so important to so many of us to remove duplication between these platforms.
Hi Blake, Its been a few months now and i was wondering if there is any progress on allowing users to choose devices seen by voice assistants? Is this something you guys are working on and say are 40% or 70% near completion or something that might get worked on on some unknown date. Honestly been waiting to get updates on this for a while to decide if I and probably many others to stay with smartthings or move on , so any real update would be greatly appreciated.
Tagging @Lars He might know.
is this the right place to tag @Lars and/or @blake.arnold about the absolute mess thatâs been happening with Automations? Without any notification to users to expect that everything will break?
Nothing working. No automations and devices are going offline. Can someone from Smartthings answer? what a mess! @Lars and or @blake.arnold please update community on what is going on.
I appreciate everyoneâs patience with this. Yes, itâs still happening and being actively worked on. Itâs been way more complicated than weâd like but itâs still moving forward.
Any chance you can tell us why this is taking so long? And a rough approximation of when it can be expected?
- Too many competing priorities (or lack thereof), but hey we now have Android Auto!

- Shifting to Rules API for the back end and now fixing all the things that are broken.
- Closure of the Classic app that should have shifted resources to improving the platform but are instead fighting fires.
- Trying to keep up with Samsungâs new releases for Galaxy phones, appliances, watches, tags, and other things that are advertised to work with SmartThings. Theyâve got to keep up the 4.5 star ratings in the app storesâŚ
- Iâll add more once my caffeine level goes downâŚ

I hate to butt in here, but, I would rethink using a smart plug for anything life safety or mission critical as in sump pump, equipment, OX generator what ever. I would suggest a UPS to power it.
That way even in a power failure it would continue to run, for specific amount of time based on how big a UPS Ianâs the load is.
Some of the smaller ones now even have network ability that you could reboot it remotely.
Case being I have a couple Geeni smart plugs that I use and noticed if power is removed and reapplied, it does not go back to the state it was in, it remains off until it is witched back on in app or power button.
Hahahaha i assume that is the case, i just hope someone from the inside could provide some information with a timeline.
Breathe John breatheâŚ
Go to your happy place⌠ST Classic
Yes, itâs always a good decision to roll out new functionality that less than 25% of the userbase will ever use as opposed to sayâŚfixing things that are newly broken and those that have been broken for some timeâŚbut yes, thanks Samsung, yet again for nothing
Please help. I noticed my 55 Curve (UN55KS8500FXZA) auto updated firmware the other day & now I cannot connect my Samsung note20 to it any longer via smartthings. I tried to see if I can remove update but it wonât allow. How can I fix this very frustrating @#$
Unfortuantely your stuck with the new firmware which Samsung intentionally crippled to âtryâ to force to buy a new TV. My 2016 UN K series was crippled via firmware in the same manner 2 years ago as the new TVs will be in time. The integration was replaced with a direct connection which doesnât allow the TV to be turned on remotely nor does it allow for automations. Up/down/OK, channels and volume is all this will controlâŚmeaning it is pretty much useless
