It is so entertaining reading these comments. SmartThings support is even on a steeper downhill than anyone would expect.
Considering that Samsung is a global company, and the new SmartThings app is driven by their incredibly great ideas. (Merge all apps into one, who cares that the final size of it will reach almost a Gigabyte…), when will it happen that SmartThings support will be seized to exist and it will be called just Samsung support. Anyhow, nobody would realise the difference. But with global presence treating customers and users of these forums, that they are only from the US and that is the only and single market, is a bit too much… then why releasing the Hub in Europe or in the UK, why pass the hardware business to someone else, when the whole thing can be shredded. Bixby was never utilized enough, the Smart speaker is a dead end only in Korea for a gift. Samsung relies mostly on Amazon services. Why to bother then…
I for one believe they are working on this and we will see it once it’s ready.
I wish the negative comments would stop around here! Lets have a little faith in them, and others. Even when it doesn’t go the way we wish, there are far more important issue in our lives. Please don’t flame me because I am expressing my opinion. If you don’t agree no need to hit “reply” . We will just have to agree to disagree.
Just for fun and to make you understand why this question was raised.
This issue has been flagged first back in May, a few days after the integration has been released.
Of course they are working on it, as on many other things as well. No doubts in that. But some feedback would be appreciated when they will be able to reach the same level of service as before.
Gabor, my reply was not to you, just some of the replies to your inquiry for an update. I only quoted your message so to be clear what I believed they were working on.
Thanks for all the work you Community Masters do around here.
Thanks for trusting us Scott. Yes, it’s still getting worked on - I’ve been in meetings yesterday and today about it. As the long-term fix involves fundamental changes to permissioning on the platform, we’re working on an interim solve in the meantime to provide our advanced users with a better experience. Please stick with us a little longer and know that I personally feel your pain as every time I tell Google to do something, I’m terrified it’s going to start turning things on and off at my in-laws…
I read today about the partnership between smartthings and Google, with integration between smartthings and Google nest/home slated for Jan.
I really hope the device filtering issue gets sorted out before then, both on the Google and smartthings side. It’s going to be a real pain in the butt having all my devices listed in both apps.
The integration is a very positive news though though.
I’m really hoping smartthings will be able to see my Chromecast audios so I can bring them into various automations (I don’t know if they’re technically part of the ‘nest’ ecosystem as theyve gone EOL. End ramble)
With the “alternate hub” I can set any of my connected devices to identify in any way I want with Google. What is different with ST integration that prevents this?
I avoid google at all cost & always hoped samsung would go with tizen for their phones. With that being said this announcement does.nothing for me & samsung should work on fixing everything that is.not working before looking to integrate with nest products.
I don’t have the time, money or inclination to get involved with hubitat or any other alternatives, especially when generally smartthings has been and continues to be a stable and effective system for my own home (I feel like I’m in the minority when I say that here!)
The device filtering with Google is really a minor snag for me and I’m happy to wait for a fix or work around it but I can see how it could be a showstopper for some. It’s good to know there are alternatives systems out there for people who have been let down by smartthings.
All of my stuff works . Hub v3 only zwave and 2 samsung tvs and several google speakers. I have 58 z-wave devices. The app and hub became a lot more reliable for me when the last updates came out.
I like the turn key option smartthings provides, but I can see where a power user/coder could want soo much more from it.
I’m willing to wait for what samsung does next. This is going to be the future of household normalcy.
@blake.arnold I just want to say that this lack of filter did, specifically, drive me to get an alternate Hub. I am slowly porting it over and may use SmartThings for some cloud based integrations, but it was incredibly disheartening that SmartThings couldn’t allow this basic device filtering. It was so important to so many of us to remove duplication between these platforms.
Hi Blake, Its been a few months now and i was wondering if there is any progress on allowing users to choose devices seen by voice assistants? Is this something you guys are working on and say are 40% or 70% near completion or something that might get worked on on some unknown date. Honestly been waiting to get updates on this for a while to decide if I and probably many others to stay with smartthings or move on , so any real update would be greatly appreciated.
is this the right place to tag @Lars and/or @blake.arnold about the absolute mess that’s been happening with Automations? Without any notification to users to expect that everything will break?
Nothing working. No automations and devices are going offline. Can someone from Smartthings answer? what a mess! @Lars and or @blake.arnold please update community on what is going on.
I appreciate everyone’s patience with this. Yes, it’s still happening and being actively worked on. It’s been way more complicated than we’d like but it’s still moving forward.
