Tuya Zigbee ZG-204ZM mmWave Sensor

**** EDIT: I’ve corrected the parameters used for my bedroom example, the parameters posted prior are from my living room sensor. My bad. Not to let anyone confused, i’ve added the two examples. ****

Returning to feedback on my tests with these sensors (all of mine have “_TZE200_kb5noeto” fingerprint)

The most important detail: “sensor positioning is key to proper functioning”.

The sensor has a wide aperture (FOV = 120°) and is very sensitive to micro-movements such as curtains or plants swaying in the wind, … therefore it needs to be positioned so that it is not facing these moving objects, as this can cause the sensor to get stuck in presence detection. The angle and distance in relation to the target to be detected are also important (if you want to detect someone sleeping, for example, it is better to install it in a higher position). Regarding distance, although it can detect initial movement up to 10 meters, the mmWave detects movements up to 8 meters, and a static person up to 4 meters. This can be verified in the sensor manual.

*Blue line is the range for stationary target detection.

Sensor also has a precision of 0,2m to 0,5m.

With all this in mind, after changing the position of my test sensors, I reconnected them to the Tuya Hub to adjust the settings. Factory reset them multiple times.

Bedroom:

For my bedroom, i’ve placed the sensor in the ceiling (2,5m high) in the middle of the room (2,5m x 3,3m), facing down just a little bit inclined towards the bed, and than set the mmWave radar detection distance to 4,5m (4,0m - 5,0m detection range), with this distance the FOV can cover all the room. Motion sensitivity (PIR) to default 5x, stationary detection sensitivity to 8x, motion detection = radar and PIR (pir detects large movements and mmWave locks in stationary targets).

Living Room:

In living room i’ve placed the sensor in the corner of the wall (2,3m high), facing the center of the room (back to the curtain), diagonal to the couch, that is my main target. Set the mmWave radar detection distance to 5m (4,5m - 5,5m detection range), with this distance the FOV can cover all the room. Motion sensitivity (PIR) to default 5x, stationary detection sensitivity to default 6x, motion detection = radar and PIR (pir detects large movements and mmWave locks in stationary targets).

For both bedroom and living room i set “presence keep time” to 300s, so it will release the presence status after 5 minutes of no motion detected.

This gives the mmWave radar more time to re-engage the target if tracking was lost in case of very small movements like breathing and heartbeat.

For my office, i set this parameter to 60s that is enough for a room where targets will not remain stationary for large periods of time. The other parameters of the office sensor are equals to the living room.

And thats it, sensor will stay in “present” state through the entire night while sleeping in bedroom, also when siting in the couch on living room or in my desk in the office and returns to “no present” 5 minutes after leaving the bedroom/living room or 1 minute after leaving the office.
