Turning my pc on and off using smart things app?

Hi everyone!!!

Just wanted to know if its possible for my pc to switch on the moment i get closer for smartthings to turn it on, i dont mind doing it manually with Bixby, wanted to know if its possible to turn off/on my pc with smart things??

  1. What type of PC do you have and what operating system does it use?

  2. do you have a SmartThings/Aeotec hub, and if so, which model?

In some configurations, it will be possible to turn the PC on and off using what is called “wake on LAN“ .

But when it comes to automatically turning it on as you approach the PC, that’s yet a separate step. You might need an occupancy sensor to indicate when you have entered the area.

So it may be doable, it may not, it just depends on the details.

As for when i approach the pc isnt that what bixby routines come in because it can switch on my tv so i was wondering if it can do the dame when it comes to my pc

And how do i do it with wake on lan?

There are devices that you can plug into a PCIe port and can be controlled via the Tuya app/cloud:

You can connect Tuya and SmartThings and if you are lucky, the device will show up - maybe as a simple switch. You’d be the first to find out if it works, but these devices are surprisingly cheap.

In SmartThings you could create a routine that turns the switch on when a (motion/presence) sensor detects you.

Edit: and if they won’t integrate in ST via cloud-to-cloud connection, you’d still be able to turn your PC on with the Tuya app or voice control.

if you’ve ever even considered to buy a hub, this has been working excellently. It has also ability to shutdown your PC and give you info if your PC is on or off.

I’ll check the ports you sent, i thought maybe theres a possible way to that without any additions because aliexpress tends to be aheadache in my country they take ages to arrive or not arrive at all, because i saw a youtube video where this peraon switches on the pc with google assistant so i thought amybe i can be able to do it with bixby v

I´ve been using it on daily basis with multiple PCs since the driver was released. It works like a champ and you can make some pretty cool routines with it :slightly_smiling_face:
