[ST Edge] Using driver package as a local home automation SmartApp?

Drivers cannot make REST calls outside of the hub. You can use REST apis within the LAN, but not call out to the internet. To support something like that, you would need to setup a forwarding service on your LAN. I think @TAustin has a driver that does this and runs on a local Rasberry Pi.

He has Two projects that might be relevant depending on the details of the use case.

I have a new Edge driver to share that provides the ability to issue POST and GET web requests to a specified URL. This functionality can help users that may today depend on webCoRE or other cloud-based means to do a similar task. Of course being an Edge driver it enables you to have fast & local automations. I have cracked the code to be able to implement device applications on a Raspberry Pi using the new SmartThings direct-connected device integration methodology.
