Some advice on my planned build (UK)

OK makes sense. I’m going to have to get a couple more dimmers.

One more question for today - my switches are 3-way retractive. I’ve wired it as per the diagram here: http://www.vesternet.com/resources/application-notes/apnt-113

At the moment though, only the lower switch turns lights on and off. The upper switch has no effect. Do I need to alter my device handler code to accommodate the 3-way momentary switch?

Thanks

I think I have read somewhere that you have to change the parameters to make S2 active, The default has this as having no effect.
Not sure but might be worth checking.

God you’re absolutely right. Thankfully I had just linked to the wrong article but followed the right diagram on the right link. I’ve edited my post to include the right one.

I’ve made that change, and now the ‘down’ switch turns it on, and the ‘up’ switch turns it off. Don’t have a dimmable LED bulb in there at the moment to test, but presumably dimming would follow the same pattern, and I can flip it by switching L1 and L2 ?

Another quick question, I’m afraid. I’m trying to add a module to a two way switch connected in parallel. Module is wired in as with the other (not 2 way) switch in another room.

I can detect it in the app and turn the light on and off, but the switch itself doesn’t seem to be controlling the light at all - it’s unresponsive. Any ideas?

So we currently have it wired in as per Fibaro’s recommendation for momentary switches, but since our switches are 3AX retractive (roller blind) switches we’ve added an extra link to S2 (drawn in the diagram).

The switch currently works as a momentary switch (parameter 20 set to 0), and I can turn on and off by pressing the down toggle. The up toggle has no effect. If I change parameter 20 to 2 (roller blind, which has worked on other switches that aren’t 2-way) it seems to force the dimmer into recalibrating and the down switch turns the light on, but not off, (as you’d expect), but the up switch has no effect.

I should also mention that the total load is 18W (LED bulbs) so I’m thinking I’m going to need a bypass in any case, but would that cause this problem too?

Perfect that did the trick, thank you!

Sorry another question - for LED bulbs which are not dimmable, I’m fitting a normal toggle switch, but would still like to turn on and off with the app. I’ve set parameter #20 to 1 (toggle). Is there also a parameter to disable the slider in the app, and allow the toggle switch to just work like a regular on/pff switch?

Edit - nevermind. Parameters were all set to be automatic. I forced a recalibration using parameter 13 and that sorted it.

Hey guys - nice thread.

I’m experimenting with these as I plan the light setup in my home.

I went for the white version of the switches Robin is using as my wife thought black would show all the kids mucky fingerprints! http://www.ashdownhomestore.co.uk/mechanical-rocker-onoff-light-switches-plain-glass-353-c.asp12

I’ve wired a fibaro dimmer 2 module and all is working OK. However, I can’t work out how to use S2 to manage scenes. Is there a guide anywhere?

I’ve wired S2 to the switch. I can see Robin has listed the scene IDs above too, but how do I configure ST to do XX when it detects scene ID 26, or scene ID 24? That’s the bit I seem to be missing. Can I do this from the app, or do I need to configure it in the device handler?

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I’ll give it a go :grinning:

Great to see this thread is still as useful for others as it has been for me.

I’m going to be moving home and will be doing it all over again in the new place as I’m really happy with my setup - all top notch. I’m leaving the fibaro dimmers and probably the smart hub behind. What steps do I need to take to ensure there’s no data left behind? Is a factory reset sufficient?

10 minutes reading this and another 30 and I have all this working. Great thread, great community. Thanks guys!

Unfortunately not managed to sell my house yet, but in the mean time I’ve just changed a bulb and it’s now stuck on.

I tried running the auto calibration and it’s not responding.

Toggling ON/OFF in the app doesn’t turn the light off, nor does the physical light switch. On all the time.

Strange one. Any ideas?

I’ve already done a soft reset of the hub using the button at the back, no joy

Just realised I’m still using the same FGD-212 Device Handler linked to in post #30 - now 8 months out of date. Perhaps if I update the device handler?

Just very odd as I’ve been using all switches (including this one) just fine for months.

Tried it and doesn’t seem to make any difference.

Toggling the light in the app turns the toggle on and off, but the light stays on.

Toggling the physical light switch doesn’t turn the light off, and the light state in the app doesn’t change either.

Worth removing the device and adding again?

LED was blinking red. I’m guessing that it had detected a damaged load while I changed the bulb and had gone into protection mode and calibration was failing.

Reset by holding the B button til it cycled menu to yellow, then immediately pressed it again. Reset the dimmer and allowed me to add it again in the app.

All good now, thanks for your help!
