SmartThings or Alexa? Which is good for what?

Building my smart home system and have plenty of Alexa devices throughout the house as well as a SmartThings hub.

My question is: what is each system best for?

What routines are Alexa best for? Clearly anything that requires answers from Alexa or automations that are invoked by speech (at least I think so).

I still haven’t figured out what SmartThings is better at other than adding more conditions.

Are there things I should/shouldn’t do in each system? Is there a resource that may compare the two platforms and describe what each is best used for? JDRoberts, I wouldn’t be surprised if you haven’t already put something together that explains just that.

Adding more conditions and running more stuff locally are the two things that smartthings is better at. :sunglasses:

If you want to see a long detail discussion, as you guessed, there is an existing FAQ, but it sounds like you already have the basic idea.

How to Get Started Creating Complex Rules in SmartThings

As of this posting Alexa is good at controlling some devices that SmartThings can’t, including its own Echo devices, but it’s likely this will all change again once more companies have matter support.
