Smart things Presence Sensor per room?

The SmartThings presence sensor (which is zigbee) doesn’t know where it is. And the network only knows whether it has recently connected to the network or not. There’s no actual locator function for the presence sensor. There’s just a “recently talked to the hub” and “hasn’t talked to the hub for a while.”

So there’s no “room” concept involved with this particular device. The following thread should help explain further:

Picture a large house with a single hub, and perhaps half a dozen ZigBee repeaters (perhaps Outlets) dotted around the building, to form a mesh. Now with most ZigBee devices that’ll be fine, because the ‘things’ will stay in one place, so will always talk to their associated repeater. But Presence Sensors are different. You could be anywhere in the large house, but you’d still want to be seen as ‘present’. So they need to be seen from anywhere. However, is this going to work? Surely the sensor will have picked the hub or one of the repeaters as its parent when initially paired, and it’s going to show as ‘away’ when it moves out of range.
