Ring vs Skybell vs Kuna vs?

I shifted away from Smarthings a few month ago and I just remembered this thread and wanted to come back to post my thoguhts. Sorry for any typos but I just had eye surgery and things are still healing. So I took a look at the wiring for a friend’s Kuna and it looked really simple to hack.

There are the standard leads to hook to the main power… BUT… there are also clearly the hot and neutral leads that come from the light’s controller and go up to the bulb. So this looks to be fairly easy to automate with the Aeotec Micro module:

  1. Remove the power to the light fixture from the switch and move it to constant on
  2. Wire the Kuna’s power to the incoming power cable
  3. Cut the power feeds to the Kuna light
  4. Wire a micro module power to the always on feed into the box
  5. Wire the switch connection for the Micro module to the feeds from the Kuna controller
  6. Wire the load connection for the Micro module to the light of the Kuna
  7. Install a Zwave switch in the wall position where the hardwired switch for the old fixture was
  8. Associate the Zwave switch to the micro module

If my thinking is correct the Aeotec micro module will see the the on off signals from the Kuna “brain” and act on those to turn the light on and off. The Zwave switch inside will still give manual control over the light without needing to grab my phone.

Just waiting for the Kuna to arrive to test this all out…
